Time Change For Addison Central BOE Public Hearing

This afternoon at 4:00 pm the Addison School district is having a public hearing about the upcoming May 19th school budget vote.  This will be held in the Tuscarora Elementary School Cafe.  Originally, it was slated for 3:30pm, but the time has been changed to 4:00pm.

Savona Volunteer Fire Dept Holds Their Annual Election

The Savona Fire Department voted in their officers late last week: Dan Whitmore was voted in as fire chief and Kevin Furness, Karen Miller and Dan Miller were voted in as assistants.   

A Reminder From The Corning Police Department 

The Corning Police Department says, remember not to leave children in hot vehicles.  The Corning P.D. says, look, before you lock the doors.  They also say, if you see a child in a car with the windows closed and the door locked, call 9-1-1.

Road Work Starts Today In Prattsburgh  

Steuben County Public Works Commissioner Eric Rose says County Route 74, the Prattsburgh Pulteney Road, between Trant Road and County Route 75/Browns Corners Road, will be closed to all through traffic beginning today.  That will last for about five days.  Crews will be putting in a water line in that area.  There will be a detour.

Rep. Nick Langworthy/RFK Jr., Shut Down A Farm

Congressman Nick Langworthy announced on Sunday, that he got Health And Human Services Director Robert Kennedy Jr, to shut down a farm in Wisconsin.  Langworthy wrote a letter to Kennedy, telling the HHS Director that this farm was allegedly breeding dogs with cats and doing other unnecessary and violent experiments on beagles; for example, reportedly doing surgeries on them without giving them anesthesia.  The congressman says the  farm is turning in their state license and that’s after releasing 1500 animals. 

A Local Library Is Audited By The State 

The Howard Library was audited by the New York State Comptroller Tom Dinapoli’s office.  The comptroller says the Howard Library did not keep adequate financial records.  The Howard Library responded, saying that they already made improvements but will implement the suggestions from Dinapoli’s office.  

The Governor's Campaign Against Ghost Cars

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that she is getting state police out doing extra patrols to crack down on drivers with fake license plates and tags.  The governor says, troopers will be working closely with DMV offices on this problem of phoney license plates.

Big News For Wayland 

From The County IDA:  The Steuben County Industrial Development Agency is pleased to announce that GHH-BONATRANS has selected Steuben County for its first North American operations. Earlier today, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the company will locate in the Wayland Business Park.  A global leader in rail wheelset systems, Bonatrans North America, Inc. will manufacture and service railway wheelsets, axles, and related components for rolling stock customers at its new Steuben County facility. With manufacturing operations in the Czech Republic and Germany, the company plans to invest up to $93 million and has committed to creating 85 new jobs, with plans for future growth.  James Johnson, executive director of the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency, said, “We are extremely pleased to welcome Bonatrans North America, Inc. to Steuben County. This significant investment reflects the strength of our community and strategic location, as well as the work we have done on site readiness and infrastructure development at the Wayland Business Park to support projects of this scale. Feds Report Catching Six Suspects, Ripping Off Financial Institution Customers In Places Like Steuben County

The U.S. Attorneys Office says six Buffalo area residents are being charged for allegedly using fake ID’s and tax refund check information, to open fraudulent bank accounts at financial institutions in Corning, Painted Post and Olean, as well as in Buffalo and areas around Buffalo, as well as Erie Pennsylvania.   The way the scam worked is, the suspects allegedly stole the victim’s tax refund checks – though the feds don’t explain how the suspects got their hands on the refund checks.  The suspects reportedly used that info to open the bank accounts in the victim’s names.  Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Bannano says the suspects stole over $1.3 million dollars total.  The victims lived in places in New York State and in Florida , Virginia and Connecticut.  The scam reportedly lasted from August of 2023 until May of 2024.         

Hochul's New Program, Is Being Tested In Yates Co

Governor Kathy Hochul is starting up a pilot program in five counties, to protect survivors of domestic and gender based violence.  The closest county to us, which will be part of this program, is Yates County.  Yates County District Attorney Todd Casella says the program will increase inter-agency communications between law enforcement, court, social services, advocates and first responders.
