Update On The Addison Bank Robbery Case

Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker tells our news department that the Huntley Hearing for Addison Bank Robbery suspect Dominik Bova, has been rescheduled for mid-June, after Bova requested the court date for the Huntley Hearing to be moved to a later date.

 

There Were Two Motorcycle Accidents Yesterday

There was a car vs motorcycle accident on Seneca road north in Hornellsville, Monday morning the 10am hour.  There were no injuries and there was only minor damage.  Also there was a motorcycle accident in the Town of Italy around the same time yesterday morning.  Officials say there were no injuries in that accident in Italy either.

 

New Apartments Are Coming To The Town of Erwin

There are ten buildings that will be used by the new housing apartment complex in the Town of Erwin.  Officials say that these will be market rate apartments and will be located near the Aurene Apartments in Erwin.   

 

Old Courthouses Are In The News Today

The old Corning City courthouse – what to do with it?  Steuben County Democrat Lawmaker asked that of county I.D.A. Director Jamie Johnson.  He’s been in talks recently with someone who is interested in buying the old Corning Courthouse.  "During the AIP meeting I was referencing a financing structure for the Curtiss School which included a Restore NY grant and grant funding allocated to the project through the Urbana/Hammondsport NY Forward funding," Johnson said.  "For the courthouse in Corning there is a committed Restore NY grant from the State but the cost of redevelopment is such that the grant does not cover the funding gap.  Because the City of Corning is considering applying for DRI funding there may be a possibility that this project could leverage additional funding from this program but the reality is that this is likely at least 12 months away from knowing whether the DRI funding could be available,". Johnson explained.  

On a similar note, the old Hornell city courthouse on Allen Street by the Intermediate School, the courthouse is now occupied by Catholic Charities and they do a food pantry out of their Hornell office.

 

Universal Child Day Care Is In The Proposed State Budget

Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul is pushing to get lawmakers to pass Universal Child Day Care in New York State.   The governor says this will be for kids under the age of five.  

“As New York’s first mom Governor, I’ve consistently delivered one clear message to New Yorkers: your family is my fight,” Governor Hochul said. “Too many families across this state are struggling with the exorbitant cost of childcare. This year, I’m proud that we’re making childcare more affordable and accessible across our state, delivering relief for working parents and making New York the best state in the country to raise healthy kids and families.”
