This Is National Workzone Week 

Yesterday, the New York State Department of Transportation held a meeting in Horseheads, to emphasize the importance of safe driving through construction zones.  Currently, thebiggest workzone in Steuben County is located between Hornell and Arkport.

 

Rose: Road Closing Coming Up In Prattsburgh

Steuben County Public Works Commissioner Eric Rose has announced a temporary road closure in the Town of Prattsburgh.  County Route 74 (Prattsburgh Pulteney Road), between Trant Road and County Route 75 (Browns Corners Road), will be closed to all through traffic beginning Monday, May 4, for approximately five (5) days.   This closure is necessary to allow crews to safely install a 6-inch water line in the area.  A posted detour route will be in place to guide motorists around the work zone. Residents and travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling near the construction area.

NYSCOPBA Writes Governor Hochul About Prison Conditions And Emergencies Across New York State

The state prison guards union sent a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul.  The letter says the state prisons are in a full, systemic, state of emergency.  It goes on to list examples of violent prison fights and bunkmate homicides.  It says there have been 44 homicides and six suicides this year so far in prisons run by the state.  The letter also says the governor needs to get with the state legislature and get rid of the HALT Act, as well as double bunking. The letter urges the governor to collaborate with the state legislature to eliminate the HALT Act and the practice of double bunking.

 

Gillibrand: Homeland Security Needs More $$$ 
Senator Gillibrand is asking for $750 million dollars to fund Homeland Security in order to protect Synagogues, Mosques and other houses of worship.   The senator says this funding is being requested because of the rise in anti-semitic and anti- Muslim activity.  Gilliband also says, she wants physical security enhancements and emergency preparedness training for these locations.     

 

The Dormann Library's Mini-Art Show 
The Dormann Library in Bath is hosting a mini-art show. Art submissions from individuals of all ages will be accepted until May 16, and selected pieces will be exhibited at the Bath library on May 18.


Langworthy Meets With Pro-Veteran Group In Washington
Congressman Nick Langworthy says, his recent meeting with the pro-veterans organization WNY Heroes in Washington was a privilege. He noted thatthe organization provides essential support to veterans and their families.


Addison To Hold Yard Sale Day On May 30

The Village Board of Addison has announced that Saturday, May 30, will be designated as yard sale day. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on that day, and a permit will cost $10.00.
