New Steuben County Law: Helping Clean Up Neighborhoods

Steuben County Legislative Chairwoman Kelly Fitzpatrick says the county lawmakers passed a new policy about tearing down municipally owned buildings.  Fitzpatrick says, the project that got the legislature interested in doing this, was that building on Exchange Street in the Village of Bath, which is going to be demolished.  "On Monday, the county legislature adopted a commercial demolition policy," Fitzpatrick tells WVIN News.  "What that is going to do is allow us to assist municipalities that aquire commercial properties, which need to be demolished.  We are going to approve, potentially, one project a year, with expendatures of up to $50,000.  This will be to assist when municipalities are trying to clean up neighborhoods," Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick also says she hopes the state won’t interfere with their new Albany law which bans natural gas in new buildings.
