Over 3,000 Outages In Steuben County On Sunday
The Bath Volunteer Fire Department says there were downed trees and wires around the area over the weekend. Sunday afternoon, NYSEG said that at that point, there were 527 outages in Hammondsport, 116 outages in Rathbone, 31 outages in Hornby, 239 customers without power in Thurston and over three dozen outages in Campbell. As for Steuben Rural Electric, most of their outages were in Cameron, where there were 20 customers without power Sunday afternoon. There were also a couple of Steuben Rural outages reported in Bath, Urbana and Bradford.
Allard: Two Brooklyn Suspects Charged For Allegedly Planning To Scam A Resident In Tuscarora, Out Of $28,000
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on October 18, 2025, Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Chengbin Lin, age 49, and Linquing Chen, age 48, both of 59th Street, Brooklyn, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Lin and Ms. Chen remotely took control of a Tuscarora resident’s computer, then attempted to scam $28,000 from that person. Luckily, the victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office with information on the scam and how the payment was arranged to occur. Deputies intervened and arrested Mr. Lin and Ms. Chen, who were charged with Attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class E Felony and Criminal Facilitation in the Fourth Degree. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Lin and Ms. Chen had both been previously deported and were not legally in the United States when arrested. Both Mr. Lin and Ms. Chen were turned over to Federal Agents prior to arraignment.
Catholic Charities: There Are More Requests These Days
Catholic Charities of Steuben and Livingston says that requests for emergency help has gone up by 19 percent and they say that funding is down by 10 to 15 percent this year. Catholic Charities says, this means more evictions, utility shutoffs and hunger. As such, Catholic Charities is hoping for more donations and volunteers.
Street Paving Tomorrow On East Washington In Bath
The Bath Street Department now says that there will be street paving on East Washington Street Tuesday (and on Wednesday if needed Wed). That will be between Liberty and Campbell Streets, 7:00am to 3:30pm and there will be no parking on the streets in those areas and no admittance to those streets either.

A Winning Ticket Was Sold In Penn Yan
The Finger Lakes Daily News reports that a winning ticket for almost $10,000 was sold by a convenience store in Penn Yan on Friday. That was for the Take Five Mid Day drawing. The store, was the Penn Yan Express Shop.
