There Was A Fire Yesterday In The Town Of Bath
The Bath Volunteer Fire Department says there were no injuries from the camper fire on Sunday afternoon, on the Turnpike Road in Bath. Numerous local fire departments responded to that fire, which was called in during the 1:00pm hour Sunday.
Local Educator Gilbert Ferris Has Passed Away
Longtime local teacher and guidance counselor Gilbert Ferris, has died. Ferris taught in Hammondsport, and was a guidance counselor for Steuben BOCES in Coopers Plains as well as districts including Northern Tioga, Troupsburg, Cohocton, and Seneca Falls. He was also a Boy Scout Leader, the head of the Steuben County Scottish Society, President of the Steuben County Historical Society, and a member of Kiwanis. Gilbert Ferris died last week, at the age of 88.
Early Voting Info From The County Board Of Elections
Early voting in Steuben County starts October 25, 2025 runs through November 2. Hours for early voting will be 9am – 5pm each day. There will be three early voting locations: the Steuben County Annex building in Bath, the Hornell Arts Center and the Steuben County Library in Corning.
The Top Runners From The Wineglass Marathon
The annual Wineglass marathons were held over the weekend. Dennis Ryan, an Ithaca College graduate, was the winner of the full marathon for men. Ryan's time was two hours, 25 minutes and 23 seconds. Sadie James from Sayre Pennsylvania was the winner of the full marathon for women. Her time was two hours, 48 minutes and 58 seconds. Officials say that both Ryan and James have won before.
FROM THE BRADFORD CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT: A public meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 6:00 PM in the school's cafeteria to share information on the state of the Bradford CSD and its desire to engage in conversation about a potential centralization with the Watkins Glen CSD.

Going Home A Little Early This Coming Friday
Coming up this Friday October 10, the Bath School District will be participating in a statewide Emergency Go Home Drill. Bath School students will be dismissed 15 minutes early on Friday.

The Statewide Burn Ban Started Up Last Week
The Statewide burn ban is going on now and lasts through October 15th...at that point, state officials will consider whether to extend the burn ban. The Department of Environmental Conservation says, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung and Yates Counties are all at high risk for fires.
Will Governor Hochul Sign This Bill?
There is a bill on Governor Kathy Hochul’s desk, to put Steuben County in a new judicial district with Livingston. allegany cattaragus Chautauqua counties. Currently Steuben County is in a judicial district with Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Yates Seneca, Wayne and Cayuga counties. One Republican says, that this will make it so Democrats will in the future, likely hold most of the state supreme court seats.
