Updates on Sept. 19th Penn Yan House Fire Victims
There has been an update on the fire in Penn Yan last week. Sadly, the fire claimed two lives. Twelve-year-old Ethan Parker called 911 early Friday morning last week, after waking to find his home ablaze. He and his grandmother, 78-year-old Patricia Stenz, were overcome by smoke before rescuers could reach them. Both Ethan and his grandmother passed away at Upstate Medical in Syracuse. Fire Departments from Benton, Himrod, and Dundee assisted on the scene and Investigators say the fire started from a refrigerator malfunction. The Penn Yan Police Department says everyone involved did everything they could to save the victims. Their thoughts are with the victims' family and the Penn Yan community.
Addison Woman Arrested on Multiple Charges
A woman from Addison is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a car from a local trailer park. Addison Police say 33-year-old Stevey L. Monroe was arrested this past weekend on Saturday, September 20th. She’s been charged with grand larceny in both the third and fourth degrees, as well as unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The arrest follows an incident at Balls Trailer Park in the Village of Addison, where Monroe is accused of stealing a vehicle. Police say she was taken into custody, processed, and later released with an appearance ticket.
Upcoming Hammondsport Oktoberfest
This coming Saturday, Hammondsport will kick off their 2nd Annual Oktoberfest. Deanna Tompkins Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce President and Christina Morgan, their new Office Director, were on WVIN’s Community Focus this morning to explain this Saturday's exciting celebration. Oktoberfest will take place at the Hammondsport Carnival Grounds on Route 54 and will be this Saturday from 1-5pm.
Naples Teacher Resigns Following Controversial Social Media Posts about Charlie Kirk Shooting
The Naples Central School District staff member that was placed on leave for controversial Facebook posts referencing the death of activist Charlie Kirk a week ago, has resigned. Last Saturday, protesters gathered outside Town Hall near Naples High School, playing Kirk’s speeches and calling for the teacher’s removal. Superintendent Kevin Swartz released a letter to the school community, confirming the resignation and said the matter is resolved. In the letter, he praised students and staff for their resilience, noting a strong start to the school year and smooth adjustment to new rules banning internet-enabled devices. The Naples Board of Education meets again, today, September 24th.

2025 Wine Glass Marathon Coming Soon
Almost ready to kick off its 44th year, the Wineglass Marathon is coming to our area in less than two weeks. The challenge begins with the Williams Toyota 5K on Saturday, October 4th and then the Guthrie Wineglass Marathon on Sunday, October 5th, which will begin in Bath. It will then proceed through the valleys of Savona, Campbell, Coopers Plains, Painted Post and then finish on historic Market Street in Corning.

Tonight, a Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place at the Haverling High School Gym Lobby and tomorrow evening as well, from 4-7pm. This Book Fair is being hosted by the Bath-Haverling PTA.
