SERVU FCU Shred Days

Protect your identity and shred your old documents for FREE at ServU Federal Credit Union’s Free Shred Days taking place from 9am-12 noon at the Hornell Office today and next Saturday the 27th at the Bath Office.  Businesses are asked not to participate as this is a FREE shred day intended for personal shredding items only.  Attendees are limited to 5 boxes and asked to stay in their vehicles during the process as volunteers will remove your shredding items for you. 

 

Corning Fall Festival & Duane Eddy Ceremony

Today is the second and final day of the annual Harvest Festival in Corning, taking place on Market Street.  The street will be closed to vehicle traffic for stilt walkers, kids’ activities, live music, on-street vending, hayrides and more. Festivities begin at 10am today.  There will also be a dedication ceremony taking place near Centerway Square at 2pm during the Festival.  Duane Eddy, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Guitarist, Steuben County Hall of Fame Member and Corning Native who spent some of his life in Bath, will be honored with a historic marker in honor of his life, career and legacy.  His wife and other family members will be in attendance. 

 

Steuben County Sheriff's Boater Safety Course

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office Navigation Division is hosting a FREE one-day New York State Boaters Safety Course on Saturday, September 27. The class will be held from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Steuben County Sheriff's Office in Bath.  Participants must be at least 10 years old to attend and must pass a written test at the end of the session.  Seating for the class is limited to 30 persons and preregistration is required. The course is free of charge. However, New York State charges a fee of $10 for the boater's certificate which does not expire. SNAP-Ed Ending Sept 25th, 2025

On July 16th, 2025  the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education, or SNAP-Ed, announced, that the program would end in New York State after cuts to federal funding. The programs final day in the state will be Thursday, September 25th.  Justine Patterson, project director for SNAP-Ed New York in the Southern Finger Lakes Region said that the decision was not anticipated and they recognize the impact this may have on the communities they serve and that the program has made a difference in the Southern Tier by teaching and promoting healthy eating, physical activity, and food resource management among SNAP-eligible individuals.  For further information and SNAP-Ed contacts visit SnapEdNY.org
