Local/Regional State Lawmakers Try To Block Rate Hike

Will our NYSEG bills go up?  Senator Tom O’Mara, Senator George Borrello, Assemblyman Joe Sempolinski and Corning Republican Assemblyman Phil Palmesano sent a letter to the state’s Public Service Commission asking them to prevent a New York State Electric and Gas rate increase.  "We write to express our strong opposition to the proposed rate increase submitted by NYSEG to the Public Service Commission on June 30, 2025," it stated in the lawmaker's letter.  "As a regulated monopoly, NYSEG benefits from a guaranteed customer base and is already operating at a profit. There is no justification for forcing ratepayers, who have no ability to choose another provider, to bear even higher costs without commensurate improvements in service.”

Gov Hochul: Get Off The Phone Kids!

Democrat Governor Hochul visited schools in New York City and Long Island, today and yesterday, telling students that it’s a great thing for them, long term, that they cannot use their cellphones during school hours.  “Well, one thing that's going to be a little different for you, too, is that this is the first time that you'll not have cell phones in your possession during the school day," Hochul said.  "Now we're doing this because we want to make sure that you can keep learning and in a distraction-free environment … You are going to be smarter because you'll be paying attention more in school. Your teachers will have a better experience teaching you and making connections with you.”
