Sheriff Allard Signs An Agreement With ICE

Gannett media outlets reports that Steuben County is the most recent county to sign up to help ICE with undocumented immigrants.  Gannett says that Sheriff Jim Allard signed two agreements in July for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to authorize and train members of his staff to perform ICE duties at the Steuben County jail and to question and arrest other people suspected of illegally being in the U.S.  Allard told USA today that the shetiff’s department supports all law enforcement, local, state and federal and that these agreements allow us to meet our public safety mission by having an increased partnership with our federal partners.

 

A Bridge Closing Today

There is a bridge closing today, Tuesday and Wednesday in the Town of Rathbone.    County Public Works Commissioner Eric Rose says it’s the bridge on Newcomb Road in Rathbone, between Route 119 and Derby Hill.  There is not an onsite detour.

 

Back To School Today For Some College Students 

Today is the first day of classes at Corning Community College and at Alfred State College.  It’s also the first day of class at Alfred University where the 1988 grad Bridget Nilson, CEO of New York State Electric and Gas, gave the opening convocation.

 

Tenney Takes A Tour Of Military Base In Niagara Falls Area

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney attended the annual legislative tour of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station over the weekend.  Tenney says it was an honor to hear directly from military leadership about the missions of the 914th Air Refueling Wing and the 107th Attack Wing, "and to see firsthand the vital role that the Niagara Falls Air Reserves stations plays in our national defense."  Tenney says thanks to all of them ffor their sacrifice and dedication.

 

SenatorSchumer Restores Union Workers Pensions

Senator Chuck Schumer came up with $67 million dollars to restore pension benefits for over 500 Buffalo area union workers.  WVIB reports that the money is coming out of the America Rescue Plan and will go to the pensions of brick layer union workers in Western New York.
