BANK ROBBERY IN ADDISON THIS MORNING
Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on August 22, 2025, at about 10:41am, Deputies responded to a report of a bank robbery in the Village of Addison. The investigation revealed that a person entered a financial institution on Steuben Street, Addison, New York, displayed what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money. The person received over $4,000 in cash and left the business. The person, described as a thin white male possibly wearing a blond wig, with a black hoody and possible dark facial hair, was last observed traveling on foot eastbound towards the Main Street area, along the Canisteo River dyke, behind the building.
No weapon was discharged nor was any injury reported. Steuben County Mobile Crisis responded to assist the employees affected in the robbery. The Sheriff’s Office completed initial interviews and evidence collection, aided by the Addison Village Police Department, New York State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The investigation is ongoing. An enhanced photo of the suspect will be released later.
A vehicle of interest is a dark blue Dodge Caravan last seen traveling west on CR 119.

A Murder In Alfred
From NYSP: On August 21, 2025, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of SP Amity arrested Briar A. York, 27 of Alfred, NY for Murder 2nddegree (A-1 Felony) and Tampering with Physical Evidence (E Felony).
On August 21, 2025, at 10:22 A.M., Deputies responded to the Economy Inn on State Route 244 in Allegany County for a welfare check on Sean M. Dawson, 32 of Alfred, NY. Officers located Dawson in his hotel room deceased from apparent multiple stab wounds. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that Dawson was visited by York in his hotel room on August 19, 2025. Following a discussion regarding Dawson’s status on the sex offender registry, York became physically aggressive and stabbed Dawson multiple times. York attempted to clean the scene of possible evidence after the incident occurred.
York was located, arrested and transported to SP Amity for processing. York transported to the Allegany County Jail for CAP arraignment.
The NYSP Forensic Identification Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Allegany County Sheriff’s Department, Village of Alfred Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Allegany County Coroner assisted in this investigation.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Road Work Is Coming Up Soon In The Town of Woodhull
County Route 102, the Hedgesville-Woodhull Road in the Town of Woodhull will be closed September 2, 3, and 4, that’s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that week. That will be from Route 417 to Smith Road in Woodhull.
It's Smoke On The Water Weekend In Hammondsport
The 14th annual Smoke on the Water - kicks off with team trivia tonight at 7:00 in Hammondsport and it officially begins at noon tomorrow there, when the Barbeque competition starts.
Prattsburgh And Rathbone Races Slated For November
Prattsburgh Town Supervisor, Republican Al Wordingham is running again and Wordingham has an opponent in the November elections. That’s Lydia Aguilera who is running on an independent line. Also in the November Elections, Rathbone Town Supervisor William Morseman has an opponent : William Reagan is running against Morseman, Reagan is running on an independent line too.
The Prattsburgh Summer Festival Starts This Afternoon
Prattsburgh is having their summer festival this weekend. The summer festival starts today at 5pm, there will be a frog jumping contest, the fireman’s water ball competition, and the rotary club’s kids activities. The Prattsburgh Summer Festival has a lot of events including bounce houses for kids, that’s starting at 10am Saturday – with a parade at 1pm Saturday. There’s also Sunday School and a worship services Sunday morning.
The Campbell Community Event And Craft Fair
Campbell is doing the Community Event and Craft Fair. It’s put on by the Campbell American Legion Auxilary. That’s Saturday from 10am to 3pm at the softball fields across from the Legion. There will be scavenger hunts, dart throwing, kids games, bake sales, axe throwing, a dunking booth and a dj playing your favorite songs. Chicken Barbeque noon till gone and lots of other food and drinks too. And a baking contest starting at 11am tomorrow. People will be making either pumpkin pies or zukini bread and there will be four judges deciding on the winner. Free admission as well at the Campbell Community Event and Craft Fair.
