Statement From Bath School Officials, About The High School And Middle School Main Entrances Being Closed
FROM THE BATH SCHOOL DISTRICT: "The High School and Middle School main entrances are out of order today. If you need to enter the High School, please use the entrance by the HS Library. If you need to enter the Middle School, please go to the District Office, and we will assist you further. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!"
Bridge Work Is Done In Corning, Just Starting In Rathbone
Steuben County officials say that the bridge on Newcomb Road, over Canisteo River, between County Route 119 and Derby Hill, in the Town of Rathbone, will be closed to all through traffic starting today and that’s thru August 22. The bridge will be closed for bridge deck work. There is not an on-site detour.
Also, the D.O.T. issued a statement last Friday saying that there was going to be work all weekend on the Icicle Bridge on I 86 in Corning and the D.O.T. was saying on Friday that the Icicle Bridge would be open again this morning.

Extra Patrols For The Labor Day 2025 Weekend
State Police and local law enforcement will have extra patrols out through the Labor Day weekend. Troopers say this is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to prevent drugged and drunk driving.
New York State Electric And Gas Wants A Rate Increase
NYSEG wants a rate increase and has asked the P.S.C. – the Public Service Commissioner - to implement one. Corning Republican Phil Palmesano says the governor should fight the state’s Climate Leaderhip Community Protection Act, which Palmesano says, is the cause of the rate increases. New York State Electric and Gas maintains that the increase in what customers pay will help infrastructure, will help the state reach it’s energy goals and improve reliablility. If the NYSEG rate increase does happen it will be in May 2026.
Langworthy Defends Trump's VA Hospital Policies
The Buffalo News put out an article the other day about VA hospitals. It said that, “severe staffing shortages were on the rise at VA medical facilities and that there were going to be thousands of layoffs," because of the Trump Administration. On Sunday Republican Congressman Nick Langworthy issued a statement calling that Buffalo News story “misleading”. Langworthy says because of President Trump’s changes, the VA has cut down on their backlogs – by 37 percent nationwide since the Trump Inauguration this past January. Langworthy also says, VA patient wait times are improving too.
The Governor Releases 13 Migrants From NYS Prisons
Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R, Syracuse) is calling out Governor Kathy Hochul for pardoning 13 migrants including a prisoner without announcing that this happened. One prisoner mentioned was serving a sentence for shooting and killing someone in a pool hall in New York City in 1988. Hochul pardoned the inmate because he was going to be deported by the Trump Administration. The New York Post quoted Hochul as saying that all of those who had been pardoned had “paid their debt to society.” Stefanik says the prisoner who was convicted of the 1988 pool hall shooting, "should have been deported years ago.”
