House Fire In Jasper On Wednesday Afternoon

Numerous fire departments were called out to a house fire yesterday afternoon in the Town of Jasper  County Emergency Services Director Tim Marshall says, the Jasper Fire Department was called to a reported structure fire on State Route 417 in Jasper around 2:45 yesterday afternoon.  Upon arrival of first units smoke and flames were reported coming from the structure.  Firefighters made a quick knockdown on the fire which was under control in about 15 minutes.  The fire is under investigation by the Steuben County Fire Investigation Team.  Mutual Aid was provided by Troupsburg, Woodhull, Canisteo, Tuscarora and Addison Fire Departments.  Steuben County EMS was on stand-by.  There were no reports of injuries.  Tm Marshall also says, a brush fire went through five acres of land in the Town of Rathbone Tuesday afternoon.  Marshall also says, although the area is getting some well-deserved rain, the county is still very dry and urges residents to use caution while burning.  He says many of these fires can be avoided if residents would not burn outdoor debris during dry periods.  And he says, If we don’t see a change in the weather pattern, this fall could be dangerous because of the possibility of wildfires.
