This devastating incident also claimed the lives of three innocent civilians. Our hearts are with all the families affected. The New York State Police stand with the NYPD and all those grieving during this time of profound loss. Officer Islam’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten."
The Steuben County Disaster Reserve Fund
Steuben County Legislative Chair Kelly Fitzpatrick says, the county legislature took money out of some capital projects and putting that money into several reserve funds. Fitzpatrick says, this is happening because of advice from the State Comptroller’s Office. Fitzpatrick also says, this will help out with future repairs from floods or any other disasters. Up to this point, the county has been using capital project monies, for flood/disaster repairs. "In recent years," Fitzpatrick tells Wvin, "we have experienced several disasters in our area. What this fund will do is allow us to have money set aside to pay for repairs, while we wait for any federal and state reimbursement to come through. That way, our general budget for that particular year, won't have to take any kind of a hit for a natural disaster as we pay for repairs," Fitzpatrick said.
