Bridge Work In Bath, Begins Today

The County Route 11 bridge over Culver Creek in Bath will be closed starting today.   That's in order to replace beams and do some other work.   Crews should be finished by October with this project.   

 

The County's Upcoming Disaster Reserve Fund Vote

The Steuben County Legislature will meet one week from today and vote on, among other things, whether to establish a disaster reserve fund, for situations like the county experienced last Wednesday.  Also, Steuben County Emergency Services Director Tim Marshall says, he’s been in contact lately with Department of Environmental Conservation officials, about ways to prevent flood damage.

 

Weis Vineyards In Hammondsport Wins A Big State Award

From The Gov's Office:   Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the winners of the 39th Annual New York Wine Classic, a nationally recognized competition highlighting the best of New York's wine industry. Rose Hill Vineyards from Long Island earned the prestigious Governor’s Cup for their exceptional 2019 Clarity Cabernet Sauvignon while Weis Vineyards was awarded Winery of the Year in recognition of their outstanding performance across multiple categories. This is the second consecutive year and the third time overall that Weis Vineyards has Winery of the Year. The winners were announced this evening during a special live virtual event hosted by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation (NYWGF).

 

“Congratulations to Rose Hill Vineyards, Weis Vineyards, and all of the wineries who joined this competition,” Governor Hochul said. “The New York Wine Classic celebrates the very best of the state's wine and grape industry, which is widely recognized across the globe for producing high-quality, unique varietals that continue to set us apart as leaders in the industry. From Lake Erie to the Finger Lakes to Long Island, and across the State, the caliber of New York wines made by our hard-working winery owners and farmers is second to none.”

 

The Governor's Cup is the competition's most esteemed award, recognizing the "Best of Show" in the New York Wine Classic, while the Winery of the Year award is presented to the winery with the best overall showing based on the level and number of awards in relation to entries. Additional honors are awarded in various categories including Best Sparkling, White, Red, Pink, Dessert, Specialty, and more.

Hochul Holds Emergency Cabinet Meeting About Medicaid

Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul says, she held an emergency cabinet meeting late last week because she’s afraid that the Trump Medicaid cuts will result in closing down hospitals statewide.  However, Corning Republican Assemblyman Phil Palmesano maintains, Trump is not cutting Medicaid but reducing increases to that program.

 

Today's Veggie Van Schedule For Steuben County

The Veggie Van, will be in Prattsburgh at the park this morning, 9am to 11am, and in Bath this afternoon, at the Lakeview Apartments from 1pm-3pm.  The Veggie Van brings produce across the county from July through October.  It’s part of a Steuben County Cornell Cooperative Extension program, and they accept cash, credit cards, farmers market coupons and E.B.T. and SNAP cards too.
