Steuben County reports that due to excessive rainfall, multiple state, county, and local roads are impassable, including CR 10, CR 15, CR 119, CR 76, CR 87, CR 88, CR89, SR 36, SR 54, SR 248. First responders and highway crews are assessing damages and responding to various emergency calls.
Steuben County is strongly advising that residents avoid all non-essential travel. Help us keep the roads clear for responders to operate. Call 911 ONLY for Emergencies. Report wire calls to your local utility. Turn around, don’t drown!

"I just got off the phone with Steuben Co Public Works Commissioner
Eric Rose, who says the affected areas are: Canisteo, Jasper, Troupsburg,
and Cameron. The Dept of Public Works is cleaning culverts and clearing
everywhere they can. All we ask is that any drivers out there, if
you see the Steuben County crews out there tonight, please slow down and drive
carefully around them. Just slow down and look."

At 729 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy
rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain has
already fallen fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to
begin shortly.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.

urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Tornado Warning for... Northeastern Steuben County in central New York...
* Until 715 PM EDT.
* At 648 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located over Bath, or 17 miles northwest of Corning, moving
northeast at 30 mph.
HAZARD...Tornado.
SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.
IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

Two Bulletins From The Nat'l Wx Service In The 6pm Hour
FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE 6:30pm - A severe thunderstorm was located near West Cameron, moving northeast at 30 miles per hour. HAZAARD: 60 mile an hour wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE: Radar Indicated. IMPACT: Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding and trees. LOCATIONS IMPACTED: Include Bath, Howard, Urbana, Pulteney, Wheeler, Wayne, Avoca, Cameron, Bradford and Savona.
FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE: 6:12pm - Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Canisteo, or eight miles southeast of Hornell, moving northeast at 40 miles per hour. Wind gusts up to 40 mph. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include: Canisteo, Hornell, Howard, Bath, Urbana, Avoca, Cameron, Bradford, Wheeler and Cohocton.

* WHERE...Portions of central New York, including the following areas, Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates and northeast Pennsylvania, including the following areas, Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna and Wyoming.
* WHEN...From this evening through Tuesday morning.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Last Friday Night's Heavy Rains
Steuben County Emergency Services Director Tim Marshall says, on Friday night, there was some minor flooding in Bath, on County Routes 10, 14 and 15. Marshall says there was also some flooding in the Turnpike area. Sheriff Jim Allard says, both Keuka and Waneta Lakes, are at higher water levels than usual.
Then over in Allegany County, a state of emergency was declared Friday night during the heavy rain storms. Allegany County lifted the state of emergency at 9:15am on Saturday morning. Also, the Allegany County Sheriff noted that there was much debris and branches and tree limbs all over Cuba Lake. And the Cuba Town Supervisor says there is a travel ban on Cuba Lake.
A Fire In Savona And A Fire In Campbell
There were two fires over the weekend. Numerous fire departments went to a structure fire in Campbell on Saturday night, and there was a garage fire on Lamoka Avenue in Savona on Sunday afternoon.
Bath Swift Water Teams Makes Rescues In Canisteo
On Saturday in the 2:00 hour, the Bath Volunteer Fire Department reports that the Bath Swift Water Team, went over to Canisteo to assist in helping rescue several people, including a small child, from an island in the Canisteo River. Officials say that after three trips in the water, everyone was rescued. The Canisteo Fire Company reports that the child was taken to St James Hospital for treatment.
A Road Closure Is Coming Up A Week From Today
Steuben County Spokesman Eddie VanStine says, public works commissioner Eric Rose says that the county will be closing down Route 117, between Route 248 and Harkenrider Road, in West Union, and that starts a week from today. Work will last from June 16 through June 20.
The NY Forward Meetings Will Be Held Today
There are two events coming up on today about the $4.5 million dollar New York Forward money, the village of Bath won in a statewide contest last year. The first meeting is from 3pm to 5pm, the second one is 6pm to 8pm. Both meetings today are at the Bath Fire Station.

Steuben County Democrat Chairman Shawn Hogan and all of the of the county Democrat Chairs in the state, put out an endorsement statement for Governor Kathy Hochul’s reelection for the 2026 race. That endorsement comes after the Lt Governor Antonio Delagado announced he’s running for governor too
