New Police Chief Announcement Was Made Today
Bath Village Mayor Michael Sweet says, the new police chief for the Village of Bath will be longtime Steuben County Sheriff's Department Investigator, Don Lewis. Lewis has also worked as the head of the sheriff's dept's fire investigation unit and as Canisteo Fire Chief. We asked Mayor Sweet about when Lewis will end his work with the sheriff's department and when he will begin as the new Bath Village Police Chief. "Yet to be determined," was what Mayor Sweet tells WVIN News.
It's A Day Off Today For Local School Students
All local grade schools and high schools have today off, because of the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday. This is a statewide student holiday and students will return to classes tomorrow.
Palmesano: Electric School Buses Are So Impractical
Yesterday, Corning Republican Assemblyman Phil Palmesano was spoke out against electric school buses being forced on schools in New York State. Palmesano says electric school buses are both more expensive, and harder on the roads and streets. "A deisel school bus's axel weighs about 10 tons," Palmesano said during the Assembly GOP's event on Tuesday afternoon in Albany. The front axel of an electric school bus weighs 14 tons and the rear axel of an electric school bus weighs 25 tons. The damage to the roads happens 20 percent faster from an electric school bus," Palemesano said.
Langworthy Spent Tuesday Holding Events About Ice
Also yesterday Republican Congressman Nick Langworthy held press conferences in both Buffalo and Jamestown talking about immigration. Langworthy says there was four years of a wide open border, he says there are 50,000 known criminals from other countries being apprehended and he says there were no raids of any schools by the Buffalo ICE office.
Gillibrand Warns Against The Federal Funding Freeze
Democrat U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is holding a press conference today to warn against the federal freeze on funding from the Trump Administration. Gillibrand says, cutting federal funding will affect money that goes to firefighters, police and veterans care.
