Larry Schoonover Is Sentenced In Steuben County Court

Steuben County Judge Chauncey Watches has sentenced 51 year old Larry Schoonover of Bath, to 35 years to life for the 12 counts of attempted murder of a police officer (one count for each officer shot at), and a consecutive term of 20 years, for the criminal use of a firearm charge.

Schoonover was in a shootout with State Troopers, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and Bath Village Police, in August, 2023.

Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker: “This is a man who has engaged in similar conduct in the past at a lesser level.  The system gave him every possible tool to prevent this from happening and he tried to kill brave men and women from the state policed, the sheriff’s office and bath village police as they tried to protect his neighbors, and Larry Schoonover himself, from harm."

Tenney Wants To Get NYS To Drop Bail Reform

GOP Congresswoman Claudia Tenney announced, she’s working to get a law passed, to get $10 million dollars from the Department of Justice, to states, that have a public media campaign that fights anti-police sentiment, and states that have tough bail laws.  Tenney says, she’s doing this in hopes of encouraging states like New York, to repeal bail reform.  Among the supporters for this legislation, which is called the Serve Our Communities Act, is Congressman Nick Langworthy.  "Bail reform has destroyed New York," Langworthy says.  "Our brave law enforcement officers and law-abiding New Yorkers feel the consequences while criminals roam free. As long as the far-left leaders in Albany fail to protect New Yorkers, it is our job in Congress to do so. "

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's Legislative Plans And Goals

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand held a virtual press conference yesterday, to share her legislative priorities and goals for the 119th Congress. Gillibrand was recently named to the Senate Appropriations Committee for the 119th Congress. She will also serve as the ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee and as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.  “As we enter a new Congress, I am firstly focused on the economy – delivering funds for infrastructure projects that create and support good-paying jobs; securing federal support for nonprofits and other organizations that help working class New Yorkers; and working across the aisle to make 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave available for every American who needs it,” said Senator Gillibrand. “I will fight to expand my Cyber Academy program to help young people afford a college education and secure stable employment. As ranking member of the Senate Aging Committee, I will continue my work to protect Social Security and Medicare and bring down the cost of prescription drugs. I also plan to reintroduce my bipartisan legislation to fight age discrimination in the workplace. And finally, as a champion for accountability and transparency in government, I will work to pass legislation to ban stock trading by members of Congress, senior executive branch officials, and their spouses and dependents. I look forward to a productive 119th Congress delivering for New Yorkers.”
