Sheriff Allard Talks About Helping People In This Weather
With all of the cold weather we have throughout the winter, Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard tells us, deputies are only too glad to help out the homeless, or someone who is indoors, but in a very cold house. "There is a program called Code Blue," Allard said. "It's a program from the Dept. of Social Services. They give the deputies vouchers, anytime it's under 32 degrees for a 24 hour period, the deputies get vouchers so that if they do happen to meet a person who is out of a home, homeless or needs shelter for whatever reason, the deputies can give these people a voucher for a hotel and get that person a warm place for the night."
