Rose: Plans Are In The Works For A New Bridge In Bath

Later this morning, Steuben County Public Works Commissioner Eric Rose will calling on county officials to line up a contract with an engineering firm called Fisher Associates, to design a new bridge for the County Route 15 Bath bridge.

Chimney Fire In Campbell Over The Weekend

The Campbell Fire Department reports that there was a chimney fire Saturday night in the 9:00 hour in the town of Campbell.  They responded along with Savona and Coopers Plains fire fighters.  The residence was said to have suffered minimal damage and no injuries were reported.    Also, the Campbell fire department says, they are going to be voting on their fire commissioners on December 10.

 

Upcoming Toys For Tots Donation Event In Erwin

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on Saturday, December 7, 2024, deputies will host the “Toys for Tots Fill the Patrol Car and Coats for Kids” event at the Erwin Walmart plaza.  From 10am to 12pm toys and children’s coats will be collected for Steuben County children.  The toys will be distributed to Steuben County children in need and the new or gently used coats are distributed to Steuben County school districts for children in need of cold weather clothing.  This event has grown over the past five years, and the generosity and charitable spirit at both events last year was overwhelming and indicative of the sense of community in our county.

“Toys for Tots” donation boxes will be posted in both the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office and the County Office Building in Bath, New York, for those that wish to donate but cannot attend the event.

Sheriff Allard wishes to thank all who participate, donate, visit, assist, fund and work to make these events a success which will benefit hundreds of Steuben County families during this holiday season.

 

Kidnapping Accusations Out Of Allegany County

Allegany County State Police report that there was a 36 year old male who was kidnapped two years ago, was allegedly kidnapped by the suspect he was scheduled to be testifying against in a trial in Cattaraugus County.  The suspect, 61 year old Frank Scarpa, along with 40 year old Michelle McCloskey, are charged for allegedly kidnapping the 36 year old and taking him to a residence in the Allegany County Town of Angelica.  Scarpa is also said to have allegedly pistol whipped the victim.  Troopers also say, the victim escaped on foot while being taken from one location to another, and that he called 9-1-1, using an Apple I Watch. 

 

Troopers Did Many Rescues On I-90 In The Last Few Days

The New York State Thruway had a lot of accidents between Thanksgiving and yesterday, on I-90, they helped 111 drivers who were stranded on the thruway and that there were 82 accidents in just one section of i-90.
