Railroad Repairs Needed As A Result Of August Storms

Steuben County Industrial Development Agency member Kelly Fitzpatrick says part of the railroad bridge in Bath, on Fish Hatchery Road, was damaged during the August flash flooding from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Debby.  An organization from Penn Yan, called Finger Lakes Rail Riders, is looking at doing upgrades on the railroad tracks there, for a tourism project.  The Steuben County IDA is putting some funding into the rail repairs, as well as assisting the Finger Lakes Rail Riders in getting an Appalaichin Regional Commission Grant.

House Fire Yesterday, Care Accident Today, In Hornell 

There was a house fire in Thursday afternoon on Ransom Street in Hornell.  There are no reports of any injuries.  Also in Hornell, there was a car accident this morning in the 8am hour.  That was at the corner of Route 36/Main Street.  

 

Accusations Of Embezzlement Up In Ontario County

State Comptroller Tom Dinapoli reports that a treasurer for the Ontario County Town of Shortsville Fire Station, has been charged for allegedly embezzling over $100,000 from the Shortsville Fire Department.  Dinapoli says, that happened over a four year period, despite warnings from the state comptrollers office that the fire department needed better book keeping.   

 

The Governor Sends Teams Down To North Carolina 

Yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul sent 16 swift water rescue personnel, two canines and emergency response equipment to North Carolina, to help the  communities impacted by Hurricane Helene. The team, made up of members from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the Department of Environmental Conservation and State Police, went to Conover, North Carolina to assist there.
