Hammondsport Is Audited & The School District Responds

The Hammondsport School District was the subject of an annual audit by the State Comptroller’s Office.

The state comptrollers audit had three criticisms:

A that Hammondsport Central could have made more money on investments

B  the Hammondsport School District needed a better long term financial plan.

C  the school had overfunded the reserves and fund balance.

Hammondsport School Superintendent Kyle Bower said he strongly disagrees with the audit.  The superintendent maintains that if the school district was going to spend more time on how to invest, the school would have to hire out to do that.   On the criticism that Hammondsport does not have a good enough long term plan, the superintendent says the state keeps threatening to pull state aid so it’s impossible to plan far ahead.  The school superintendent also says the state expects the fund balance to be limited to four percent.  Superintendent Bower says that four percent is too little for any school district.
