Several Hundred Outages In The County This Morning

As of this posting at 10:03am, there are over 200 outages being reported by NYSEG in the Town of Pulteney.  Also, hundreds of NYSEG customers in Canisteo, both town and village residents, lost power this morning.  The Canisteo outages lasted for almost 90 minutes.  The power went out in Canisteo at about 4:58am.  It was restored in Canisteo at about 6:20am.

* WHERE...In New York, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins,
  Tioga, Broome and Sullivan counties. In Pennsylvania,
  Bradford, Susquehanna, Northern Wayne, Wyoming, Lackawanna,
  Luzerne, Pike and Southern Wayne counties.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
  illnesses to occur.

 

Addison Man Charged After Alleged Incident  On Tuesday

From The Sheriff:  Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on June 18, 2024, Deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joseph W. Hannacker, Jr., age 29, of Colwell Street, Addison, New York, after an investigation of reported trespass and fight in the Village of Addison.  It is alleged that Mr. Hannacker entered or remained without license or privilege in a premise with the intent to commit a crime.  It is further alleged that Mr. Hannacker intentionally caused physical injury to another person and endangered a child.  Mr. Hannacker was charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, Assault in the Third Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Mr. Hannacker was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

 

The New Steuben County Sheriff's Dept Educational Trailer

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard announces that the county has finished putting together the “Emilee’s Challenge” educational trailer.  This trailer is both an actual mobile home style trailer, inside of it there are as well auto parts from local fatal car accidents. There are also several videos running which show actual fatal accident scenes and video testimonials of family members talking about losing their relatives in accidents.  One of those whose testimonials is in the videos, is Kim Clark, the county sheriff's department dispatcher, whose daughter Emilee was killed in a car accident in 2019.

 

Tipping Fees Going Up At Landfill And Transfer Stations

County officials in Bath say that tipping fees at the Steuben County landfill and its transfer stations will increase beginning July 1.  This applies to private individuals, businesses, industry, commercial haulers and local political subdivisions within Steuben County.  


Day #2 Of Free Admission To State Parks In New York State

Yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that admission to all New York State Parks was free, to help New Yorkers beat the heat this week.  “Extreme heat can be dangerous for New Yorkers, and I’m doing everything I can to help families stay safe and cool this week,” Governor Hochul said. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of free and early admission to our world class beaches, pools and other State Park sites to beat the heat as we expect record temperatures across the state.”

New York State Parks Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons said, “We are excited to support Governor Hochul’s efforts to help New Yorkers find safe and affordable places to cool off during this week of extreme heat. From Jones Beach on Long Island to Allegany State Park in Western New York, our state park system offers exceptional places to relax in the outdoors. So take a break from this heat by cooling off at one of our incredible beaches or simply relaxing in the shade of our parks.”
