Outside Company To Help With Some Special-Ed Bus Runs 

Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler says that New York State law requires counties to pay for pre school special education transportation costs, when pre-schoolers are bussed to facilities outside of school settings.  As such, Steuben County is looking at the possibility of hiring an outside bus company to help do bus runs for Bath, Hornell, and Corning Painted Post schools. 

 

Sheriff Allard: Bath Woman Charged With Welfare Fraud 

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that a 34 year old Bath resident is accused of getting about $3500 in welfare benefits she is not entitled to.  The suspect’s name is Malissa Aldrich.  The charges against her are welfare fraud in the Third Degree and grand larceny in the Third Degree. 

 

Langworthy: Jewish Students Aren't Safe At Columbia

This morning GOP Congressman Nick Langworthy issued a statement, saying that Jewish students are not safe on Columbia’s campus.  Langworthy says, they’re being blocked from their classes simply for being Jewish. The congressman has  called for the Columbia University Board to remove President Shafik He also says, some of the students should be punished too.

 

The Fentanyl Fend Off Act , Has Been Passed

From Democrat US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand:

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand held a virtual press conference to announce the passage of the Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act as part of the national security supplemental. The legislation will empower the U.S. government to go after the producers and traffickers bringing dangerous drugs into the country and help end the opioid epidemic. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than heroin and cannot be detected by taste, smell, or sight when mixed with other drugs. The fentanyl crisis has affected nearly every community in New York, and over the past year, Gillibrand has met with families of overdose victims and law enforcement fighting the fentanyl crisis across the state.
