One Of The September 2023 "Operation Clean Soak"  Suspects Has Pled Guilty In Steuben County Court

Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker tells WVIN News that one of the suspects from the September 2023 arrests, in what law enforcement called "Operation Clean Soak", has pled guilty in county court.  According to the D.A., Maurice Lake of Rochester, pled guilty to an enterprise corruption charge and a bail jumping charge as well.  Baker tells WVIN that Lake's role, was being 'the drug connection from Rochester," and that the burglaries resulted, "in buying Bath Salts and Cocaine, and then selling those drugs for a profit,"   The suspects involved were believed to have committed numerous break-in's in Steuben County, Ontario County and down in Pennsylvania too.  

 

Corning Man Charged, After Alleged Contraband Incident

From The Steuben County Sheriff's Office: Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on April 21, 2024, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jason S. Howells, age 38, of High Street Extension, Corning, New York, following an investigation of reported contraband in the Steuben County Jail. It is alleged that Mr. Howells, upon arrest and subsequent detainment in the Steuben County Jail for a Centralized Arraignment Court appearance, possessed greater than one half ounce of narcotics on his person in the Steuben County Jail. Mr. Howells was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B Felony and Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree, a class D Felony. Mr. Howells was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.


Steuben County Say - We're Hiring Part Time Paramedics

Update on the new emergency medical services program the county is working to launch, in order to help the areas in the county that don’t have their own ambulance service.  Steuben County Public Safety Director Tim Marshall says the county is now working to hire over a dozen part time paramedics for the new county EMS program. 

 

Landfill Tipping Fee Increase Starts In July 

Ever use the landfill in Bath, you’ll want to know that tipping fee changes have undergone an increase.  It will be going from $44.00 to $48.00 to dump off garbage at the landfill.   And tips for construction debris will be going from $47.00 to $55.00.  These increases begin in July. 

 

Dormann Library's Meet The Authors Event

They’re going to be having a meet the authors event, at the Dormann Library in Bath on May 18th.  Local author Ann Stromsness will be talking about her writing, and her experiences as a foster and adoptive parent.  Also writer, retired educator and naturalist Walt Franklin will be talking about his recent publications and his prose and poetry. This will be at 10am at the Dormann Library on May 18th
