Some Water Disruption Expected Today In Bath

Bath Gas Electric And Water officials say there will be some water testing done today on East Morris Street near East Steuben Street.  Bath Gas Electric And Water says, to run cold water for five minutes, if you get discolored water today, during the testing.

 

Talented 7th Grader Wins A NYS Music Award

Bath School Superintendent Kelly Houck says congratulations to Bath 7th grader Griffin Enders, who was one of the winners of The New York State School Music Association Student Songwriter’s Showcase.  They say Griffin Enders won, with a song he wrote, called “Why”.

 

This Reminder: Don't Drink And Drive 

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and other local law enforcement agencies are reminding people to drive safely over the New Year’s holiday.  There will be extra patrols out during this holiday weekend. 

 

Three New County Lawmakers To Be Sworn In Tuesday

Coming up on Tuesday, three new Steuben County legislators will be sworn in at the Steuben County Legislature’s Organizational Meeting.  Corning Democrat Joe Tobia, Wayland Republican Shannon Logsdon, and Avoca Republican William Thew, were elected on November 7.  The three will take their oaths of office before joining 14 legislators on the Steuben County Board.  

 

New State Laws For 2024 Include Voting Laws 

One of the new laws that will go into effect on Monday, January 1is Early Voting by Mail.  Election officials say, Early Voting  By Mail differs from Absentee voting in that, with absentee ballots by mail requires a reason (Are you disabled?  Are you out of the area?  Are you in the military?)  Whereas, early voting by mail does not require a reason to do early voting.   Some of the other new laws going into effect on January 1, 2024, are:  Minimum wage going up to $15.00 an hour January 1st, the legal age for ATV drivers will go from age 10 to age 14, and stores have to have signs up, warning customers about the possibility of their credit card numbers being stolen.
