LECTURE ON FORMER NYS GOV AL SMITH, EVOLUTION LAWYER WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN, TODAY IN BATH

Theres a talk being given about three major American historical figures who were influential in religion in America.  That will be held at 4pm today at the Bath Fire Department.  It’s happening in conjunction with the Steuben County Historical Society. 

 

CHRISTMAS PARADE TONIGHT AT 600 IN BATH

The Spirit of Christmas parade, with Santa, is happening this evening in Bath.  According to the Central Steuben Chamber of Commerce, there will be, in addition to the parade, a visit with Santa Claus, horse drawn wagon rides, dancing elves and the lighting of the tree.   Again, the holiday fun, begins at 6:00 this evening.

 

JASON CHABOT SENTENCED TO A DOZEN YEARS

Jason Chabot, who had Canisteo and Savona addresses, has been sentenced to 12 years in a state prison and 20 years of Post Release Supervision based upon his conviction of a jury trial, for the crime of First Degree Sexual Abuse.  According to D.A. Brooks Baker, the victim was a seven year old girl.  "It happened during the Covid lockdowns, and the victim, because of her age, and the nature of the acts, didn't report it for almost two years," Baker said.  "I'm not sure any sentence is long enough for someone who sexually offends against a child because the harm can never be undone." 

 

UPDATE ON BATH CENTRAL CAPITAL PROJECT

School Superintendent Kelly Houck says We are anticipating final approval of the scope of the work associated with Phase II from the State Education Department any day. Once received we will go out to bid and then hopefully award the bids associated with the work by the end of January. Houck says that they anticipate the work starting on February 16th or shortly thereafter. “Phase II work focuses on the VEW building many renovations and upgrades to instructional spaces including the addition of a STEAM suite and office reconfigurations and most importantly security upgrades. Additionally there will be site improvements including some outdoor play area upgrades. Much of this work will take place on the 2nd shift minimizing the interruptions to the school day.”

 

TOYS FOR TOTS EVENTS ARE TOMORROW IN STEUBEN Coming up on Saturday, December 2, 10am to noon, the sheriff’s department is having the toys for tots Events in the Walmart parking lots in Erwin and Hornell.  Deputies will be collecting clothing and supplies and toys for those who could use them at Christmas.
