Sheriff Allard: Drug Raid In Erwin, SWAT Involved

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on October 14, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T team executed a search warrant at a residence on Creekside Drive in the Town of Erwin.  The sheriff says, officials involved in the raid  report that they found approximately one ounce of suspected methamphetamine and several grams of a suspected opioid, valued at approximately $3,000.   The warrant was executed by the sheriff’s office, Corning Police and Bath Village Police.  Matthew E. Taft, age 42, of Creekside Drive, Erwin, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B Felony.  Taft was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

 

Ithaca Man Is Accused Of Threatening County Employees

Sheriff Allard also reports that on October 14,  Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Matthew J. Renslow, age 45, of Snyder Hill Road, Ithaca.  The sheirff says, this arrest follows an investigation of threats made against persons working in the Steuben County Office Building, Bath.  "It is alleged that Mr. Renslow made specific threats against persons working in the County Office Building, to coerce or intimidate them, and that those persons were in fear of substantial harm," said Allard.  Renslow was charged with making a Terroristic Threat, a class D Felony.  Mr. Renslow was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

"198 COVID cases have been reported since last Tuesday's update. Continue to take precautions, especially if you're at high risk for severe illness. Rep. Sempolinski's Next Town Hall

Coming up on Saturday October 22, Congressman Joe Sempolinski  will be in both Dundee and Horseheads for town hall meetings.  Sempolinski will be in Dundee Saturday 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Dundee Village Hall and at the Horseheads Town Hall Saturday, 2:30-3:30.

 

Poll: Zeldin Catching Up To Governor Kathy Hochul 

A new poll out on Saturday about the governor’s race, it’s from Democrat pollsters Doug Shoen and Carly Cooperman, has Kathy Hochul at 50 percent and Lee Zeldin at 44 percent.

 

Trump Endorses Zeldin - Does That Help Or Hurt Zeldin?

Also over the weekend, former President Donald Trump came out and endorsed Lee Zeldin.  "Zeldin has my complete and total endorsement," Trump was quoted as saying.  Governor Kathy Hochul wasted no time in jumping in.  "Zeldin completely embraced Trump when he was in the White House," said Hochul.  The big question is, does an endorsement from Trump in this state, which is mostly Democrat, help or hurt, the Zeldin campaign?  "It depends," says Dr. Robert A Heineman, Political Science Professor, Alfred Univ.  "On the one hand, it energizes the Republican voters, on the other hand, a lot of Democrats in New York State don't like Donald Trump."
