Bath Police Are On The Lookout For Two Men 

Bath Police are looking for two suspects:  Brentin Austin, 34, West Washington Street, Bath, and Christopher Aldrich, 43, who is said to be in both the Bath and Corning areas.  Bath Police Chief Colin Taft says Brentin Austin is wanted on charges of 5th Degree Criminal Sale and 5th Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Austin has brown hair, brown eyes, a moustache and a goutee.   Police Chief Taft says, Aldrich is accused of selling fentynal.  Aldrich is bald, with a blondish-grey moustache and goutee.  If you see either Christopher Alrich or Brentin Austin, please call Bath Village Police at 607 776 2175.

 

Elmira Police: Woman Shot, Search For Suspects Continues

There was a shooting incident in Elmira last night at around 8:15pm.  Elmira Police say that witnesses say that some men were seen firing two gunshots into a car that had a woman inside.  Two bullets were found inside the car, the woman suffered a non-life threatening injury.  Anyone who knows anything about this can call 607 737 5626.

 

National Fire Prevention Week - Is All Of Next Week

Fire Prevention week is coming up, it goes from Sunday, October 9th through Saturday, October 15th.  So how is fire safety these days in Steuben County?  "Luckily, things have been fairly good," county public safety director Tim Marshall tells Wvin News.  "People are being fire-safety conscious, yet, we want to encourage folks to remember to make sure that their fires are safe, especially this time of the year, when the weather starts to change.   You want to make sure that you're checking those furnaces and the woodstoves, making sure that the chimneys are clean, before starting up those appliances for the winter months." 

 

Lawsuit Against New State Guns Laws, Is In Federal Court

New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms and 25 churches, from 20 different counties, filed a federal lawsuit claiming that a New York gun control law passed in July 2022 violates the Second Amendment.  One of the major points of the lawsuit, is to try to get the right to have guns in church again, for self-defense reasons.  Governor Kathy Hochul maintains, the new gun laws were passed to protect New York State residents from gun violence that could arise, because of the U.S. Supreme Court.

 

Are Report Cards Worse, Since Covid-19? 

Some New York State Republican members of the House, have sent letters to the state education commissioner.  These GOP congressional members want to see test scores and grades, to find out if the covid policies of lockdowns and masks, negatively affected students.  The letter was signed by Congressman Joe Sempolinski, Congressman Lee Zeldin, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, Congressman Chris Jacobs and some downstate GOP house members.
