Homicide Suspect's Court Date Has Been Changed 

A court official tells Wvin News that Brett Heffner, 29, of Corning will be in Corning City Court on Thursday, August 11,  at 10:30am.  Heffner’s attorney, David Kang out of Rochester, is asking for a preliminary hearing for Heffner, and that’s the reason for Heffner’s court appearance being changed to Thursday at 10:30.  Heffner is accused of 2nd degree murder, and stealing the victim’s car afterwards.   The murder victim, Keli Collins, 26, of Corning, was found dead in her apartment early Friday morning in the 1am hour.  Heffner was arrested an hour later.  

 

DWAI In Campbell On Sunday Night

State Police report that a 42 year old Beaver Dams man was pulled over on Sunday night in Campbell.  The Beaver Dams man is accused of driving while ability impaired by drugs and 7th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. 

 

Domestic Dispute In Horseheads 

State Troopers also report that there was a domestic dispute last night in Horseheads.  A 41 year old Elmira man is charged with trespassing, criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child under the age of 17.

 

Albany Co D.A. Sides With NYC Mayor On "Change The Age"

Spectrum News reports that Albany County District Attorney David Soares wants state lawmakers to return to Albany this week to get rid of raise the age.  Raise the age made it so suspects had to be 18 to be fully prosecuted for violent crimes.  The Albany County D.A. says, huge crimes are being committed by 16 and 17 year olds who cannot be held accountable because of Raise the Age.  Also, a New York City based State Senator, wants the Albany County D.A. to prosecute Congressman Lee Zeldin.  Zeldin is being accused of photocopying pages of thousands of signatures on political petitions.  Zeldin, is campaigning in Franklin County today, on the issues of bail reform and public safety, as well as making changes to farm workers overtime rules.
