Work Continues On LP Building Solutions

Steuben County IDA Head Jamie Johnson says, LP Building Solutions, expects to have their grading permit next week.  The grading permit will allow LP Building solutions to start work on the ground at the site…the County IDA’s Jamie Johnson says, they expect to begin the turning lane work for the Amazon project by August 15th.  

 

FEMA Update

Steuben County Manager Jack Wheeler says funding for FEMA is starting to come in to the county, to help out with repairs needed across the county,  due to August 18th flooding.  Johnson says, the county has received about $8,000 dollars in reimbursement so far, which Johnson says, is good.  The IDA leader also says, FEMA has yet to approve funding for repairs to a bridge in Tuscarora.

 

Gov Hochul: What We Learned From The Covid 

Governor Kathy Hochul said this morning during a press conference in New York City, that the most significant lesson in the pandemic, is that when children are not in a school setting on a regular basis, with that regular support system around them, that the students falter.  The governor also says, there is a possible generation impact on the children who were home for one to two years, and the governor says, going forward, the goal will be to keep students in school and safe there.

 

Zeldin: We Need To See Info On Assaults In Prisons

The governor’s opponent, Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin, is calling for the governor to release all the data about assaults against prison guards.  Zeldin says he’s hearing that there has been a large increase in the attacks against correctional officers since the HALT Act was passed, which made it harder for prisons to discipline prisoners for getting into fights.
