A Bath Man Is Charged, After An Alleged Hostage Situation In Wheeler

 

Bath Man Sheriff Jim Allard reports that 38 year old Bruce Campbell of Bath was forcibly holding someone in the town of Wheeler, and took a while to surrender.  The sheriff says, the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Unit and a SWAT team had to be brought in before Campbell surrendered, which Campbell finally did.  Bruce Campbell is facing numerous charges including 1st degree unlawful imprisonment, he was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

 

Binghamton Man Is Accused Of Reckless Driving/DUAI

State Police got a call recently, about an erratic operator complaint on I86 in Erwin.  Troopers located the vehicle being operated by a 39 year old man from Binghamton.  The suspect was subsequently arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and other traffic violations and was given an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Erwin Court.

Governor Hochul: Watch Out When Giving To Ukraine-Related Charities  

Governor Kathy Hochul today advised New Yorkers about charity scams and increased cybersecurity threats related to Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine. The New York State Division of Consumer Protection has learned of fraudulent requests for charitable relief money to support victims of the war. Consumers are encouraged to carefully evaluate any request for money and verify charities prior to donating money or supplies. "New York is home to the largest Ukrainian population in the United States, and New Yorkers always lend a helping hand to take care of those in need," the governor said.  "However, we must remain cautious of those who try to commit fraud, taking advantage of others' kindness. In your generosity to help our Ukrainian friends and family, remember if something seems suspicious, it likely is."

 

Senator Schumer: Child Care Is Getting Pretty Expensive

Addressing the domestic issue of the cost of child care this morning in the U.S. Senate, Senator Chuck Schumer said the cost is now around $10,000 per child, a year.  “That’s more than some might pay on the annual cost of a mortgage,” Schumer stated.  “$10,000 a year is simply out of reach for many families, not only do our kids suffer when they don’t have somewhere safe to stay, families suffer when their parents cannot enter the workforce (because they are babysitting).”
