Bath Village Budget News

Bath Village Mayor Michael Sweet is hoping for no new taxes for Bath village residents this year.  “We held our first budget meeting last night,” Sweet told WVIN’s David Taylor Smith.  “The big news out of that is that, this is the third year with no new tax increase,” Sweet noted that this is one of the goals, holding taxes steady. 

 

Bath School Budget Workshop Scheduled For 6:00pm

The Bath Board of Education will hold a Budget Workshop at 6:00 this evening, in the District Office.  Bath School Superintendent Joe Rumsey says, no action will be taken at this meeting as it is only a budget work session. 

 

District Map Case Was In Bath Supreme Court This Morning

The case about the congressional and state senate maps, was in Steuben County Court this morning.  Governor Kathy Hochul is being sued, to prevent the maps which the governor approved, from becoming the official new map lines.  Judge Pat McAllister denied the motion from the governor to throw the case out.  The judge he needs more information about the maps to make a ruling, and says a hearing will be conducted so experts on both sides, can provide more information about their views regarding the maps.  That hearing is set for March 14.  Judge McAllister will make a decision by April 4.  

 

Alcohol-To-Go-Sales   

Governor Kathy Hochul says alcohol-to-go sales is something her administration is working on getting into the state budget. Hochul announced the efforts to support the recovery of New York restaurants and bars, including the proposal to permanently legalize to-go drinks, and to ensure a more efficient State Liquor Authority.  However, State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is objecting to getting that into the budget.  Heastie’s objections are over not wanting policy issues, included in the state budget.
