Canisteo-Greenwood Middle School Being Prepped for JT Students
Jasper-Troupsburg High School students are scheduled to begin this academic year at the former Canisteo-Greenwood Middle School September 8th.  The school made the announcement that they plan to send 175 students to Canisteo-Greenwood for their first day of school this year. The former Canisteo-Greenwood middle school has been vacant yet maintained since 2012.  Preparations are being made for the upcoming influx of students for the first time in a decade.  Despite the speedy and responsive clean-up efforts, no date of return to the J-T high school has been officially set at this time. 


State Health Dept Issues School Mask Requirement for Indoors
According to the announcement made yesterday by the New York State Health Department, all students, staff and faculty must wear masks while in school buildings. A New York State Department of Health spokesperson said in a statement last night that public and private schools districts across the State have been notified by the Department. This comes 3 days after newly-inaugurated Governor Hochul promised a statewide school-mask mandate, vaccine requirement or weekly testing for all school personnel across New York. No updates on the vaccine-or-test requirement have been given yet.


United Way Accepting Monetary Donations for Flood Victims
After the county was overwhelmed with donations, United Way of the Southern Tier is collecting monetary donations to the “Steuben County Flood Response Fund” to assist non-profit agencies that are helping local flood victims. Donations can be sent to:

Trooper Injured; Suspect in Custody After 2 Elmira Shootings 

Multiple police crews were on scene of an active situation at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira after two officer-involved shootings yesterday, one at Eldridge Park and one at Woodlawn Cemetery, involving the same suspect, whom is now in custody. Elmira PD says a State Trooper was injured on a metal fence during the chase, and has been taken to the hospital. No other officer injuries were reported. 70 New COVID Cases Reported in Steuben Yesterday

70 new cases of COVID were reported yesterday since Monday's update according to Steuben County Public Health Department. 36 more have recovered. Of the 70 new cases, 18 were fully vaccinated at the time of their positive test, and 1 who is fully vaccinated is in the hospital. 12 are each from the Town and Village of Bath.


Congressman Reed Releases Statement About Kabul Attack
At least a dozen U.S. service members were killed Thursday while even more were injured in Kabul, Afghanistan after two suicide bombers detonated their vests at the airport where Americans were being transported from Afghanistan. It was the deadliest attack on our military in over a decade. Congressman Tom Reed released a statement about the attacks, sending prayers to military men and women in Afghanistan “specifically those heroic soldiers that were killed in Kabul.”  Reed also remarked it was “a horrific reminder of the Biden Administration’s failure in conducting the withdrawal from Afghanistan.” He added the administration “has American blood on its hands and must be held to account.”
