First dose Pfizer vaccination clinic to be held in Hornell

The Steuben County Public Health Department is holding a first-dose COVID-19 Pfizer vaccination clinic for anyone age 12 and older.  The clinic will be held on Monday, May 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hornell High School cafeteria.  To attend the clinic, participants must pre-register for an appointment time using the link found on Public Health's COVID-19 page. Those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.


Allard announces Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard announced yesterday the Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service is set for 6 p.m. Friday, May 21st at the Steuben County Public Safety Building Law Enforcement Memorial Park. The ceremony follows the county’s weeklong celebration last week of “Steuben County Police Officers Week” and is open to the public. It will be attended by state and local officials, law enforcement personnel and veterans. First instituted by county Sheriff David Cole in 2015, the ceremony recognizes the sacrifices made by all law enforcement officers in Steuben and six neighboring counties. For all attending, COVID protocols and social distancing will be implemented.


Andrew Giuliani to run for NY Governor

Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for Governor of New York. Speaking on the opportunity to run against the incumbent Cuomo in an interview with the New York Post, Giuliani said “Giuliani vs. Cuomo. Holy smokes. It’s Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier,”. In a video posted to Twitter, Giuliani said “We’re looking forward to saving our state. We’re going to work our butts off and I’ll tell you what, we’re going to have a lot of fun doing it.”. Giuliani has never run for public office. He served as an aid in the Trump Administration and has recently served as a political commentator for the conservative network, Newsmax.


Empire Access reports internet outage

Empire Access reported an internet outage earlier this morning. It is not known how widespread the outage is at this point, although it is believed Corning and Elmira are among the affected areas.


26 new COVID-19 cases in Steuben County, one new death

The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 26 residents tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday, including four individuals associated with the following schools: Campbell-Savona Jr/Sr High School, Hornell High School, Hornell Intermediate School, and Wayland-Cohocton Middle School. This brings the total to 6,796 confirmed cases, 124 of which are currently active. The Steuben County also reported the death of a 59-year-old Canisteo woman who had previously tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the number of COVID-19 related deaths in Steuben County to 184.
