Sheriff’s Office Hosts Boaters Safety Course May 15th
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office holds a boater safety course in the next few weeks. This class will be held Saturday, May 15th from 8a.m. to 4p.m. at the Steuben County Public Safety Building at 7007 Rumsey Street Extension in Bath. This class is limited to 20 people due to the pandemic so you must confirm a spot, by calling (607) 622-3911.

 

Wineglass 8K In-Person at Corning-Painted Post Middle School Track
The 12th annual Wineglass 8k is coming up and will be in-person this year. The annual marathon had to be held virtual last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. All participants must register by Sunday, May 16th.  The race is presented by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes and takes place on the Corning-Painted Post Middle School track. Virtual racing is still an option for this year. The number of people allowed to take part is limited to follow COVID safety guidelines. Click here for more details on this year's event.

 

Hornell Woman is Steuben’s 176th COVID Casualty
A Hornell woman has died from a COVID related complication. The Health Department says the 66-year-old woman died at home. Her death brings the county toll to 176. Public Health Director Darlene Smith says they have seen an alarming number of deaths recently in Steuben. 

 

11 More COVID Cases Reported in the County
The Steuben County Public Health Department received notification that 11 more county residents have tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total to 6,535 confirmed cases, 183 of which are currently active. Three of the individuals are associated with Canisteo-Greenwood High School, Hornell High School, and Prattsburgh Central.

 

Finger Lakes Wine Festival Postponed to July 2022
Today, Watkins Glen International announced that the Finger Lakes Wine Festival that was originally scheduled for July 9-11th this year has been postponed to next year: July 8-10th, 2022 due to New York State COVID-19 guidelines. Ticketholders will receive a credit for the full amount of their Finger Lakes Wine Festival purchase with an additional 20 percent of the total amount paid for those experiences, in their Watkins Glen International account by May 5th. The event credit worth 120 percent may be used in a single transaction for a Watkins Glen International event during the remainder of the 2021 season and the entire upcoming 2022 season, subject to availability.

 

Wayland Man Arrested After Trespass Complaint
A simple trespass complaint has led to serious charges for a Wayland man. State Police say the arrested 29-year-old James Sick. He was charged with felony criminal trespass with a weapon, felony criminal possession of a weapon involving a previous conviction as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was initially detained.

 

1 in 3 New Yorkers Now Fully-Vaccinated Against COVID
More than 15 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in New York State, and approximately one in three New Yorkers are now fully vaccinated. As of now, all New York State mass vaccination sites are open to eligible New Yorkers for walk-in vaccination on a first come first serve basis for all. The walk-in appointments are reserved for first doses only with second doses to be scheduled automatically after administration of the initial shot.

 

Campbell Man Arrested by Chemung County Deputies
Chemung County deputies say 23-year-old Dillon L. Cook of Campbell was arrested on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Horseheads Court for Petit Larceny and Trespass. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. He will appear in the Town of Horseheads Court at a later date.
