Bath Woman Arrested for Petit Larceny
A Bath woman faces multiple counts after state police investigated a fraud complaint in September. Troopers have arrested 50-year-old Deanna Skinner. She was charged with three counts of petit larceny. She’ll answer the charges in village court at a later date.
Prattsburgh Woman Arrested for DWI Charges
A Prattsburgh motorist faces a felony among other counts after a stop on I-86. State police arrested 61-year-old Natalia Turczeniak. She was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation and misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and having a BAC above .08%. She was additionally charged with aggravated DWI and parking on a highway. Court action is currently pending.
Steuben OFA to Host “Feeling Fabulous From 55..” Presentation
The popular “Feeling Fabulous From 55 – 105” presentation by Joshua Goldman is set for noon on Monday, Dec. 3rd. It will be held at Wildflower Hills Clubhouse in Bath. NYS Labor Department Stats Show Employment Growth
The number of people on a payroll in New York continues to grow. Labor department statistics out this week show the private sector job count increased by 122,500 jobs compared to October 2015. The unemployment rate has also decreased from 4.1 to 4.0%. In Steuben County, 41,500 people held jobs last month which is an increase of 800 workers compared with a year ago. The unemployment rate is 3.8% while twelve months ago it was 5.3%.
CCE Announces Annual Meeting Dinner/Open House
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County announced their annual meeting dinner and open house for next week on Thursday November 29th from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at their new CCE-Steuben Office on 20 E. Morris St., Bath. The event will feature the final Centennial Lecture of this year titled “From Concord to Cabernet (and everything in between): Growing Grapes and Making Wine in the Finger Lakes,” presented by Hans C. Walter-Peterson, who is viticulture extension specialist from the Finger Lakes Grape Program. There is a $15 suggested donation for the event. To RSVP, call 607-664-2300.
Corning Civic Center Rink Re-Opens with Public and Family Skate
Open Skating to the public kicks off the re-opening of the Civic Center Ice Skating Rink by The City of Corning Parks and Recreation Department this week. The rink was upgraded with the removal of the old refrigerator plant, dasher boards and two existing concrete floor slabs during the offseason. Open Public Skating Sessions will be held today from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as well as from 1-4 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. while a family skating session will be from 4:30-7:30p.m. tonight. More open skating sessions will be happening this weekend before the crews close again this Monday November 26th through Thursday the 29th to complete finishing touches.
