Jasper Man Arrested in Burglary Investigation:
A lengthy investigation into burglaries around the Troupsburg and Jasper areas has led to the arrest of a Jasper man. 45-year-old Mark Walton was arrested August 10th on charges of burglary in the 2nd and 3rd. He was arraigned and sent to the Steuben County Jail on $15,000 bail.
Dansville Man Charged with Burglary:
The New York State Police of Wayland report the arrest of a Dansville Man on August 10th. 27-year-old Stephen Van Iderstine has been charged with burglary in the 2nd and unauthorized use of motor vehicle. Van Iderstine allegedly entered a family member’s residence and stole the keys to a vehicle, which he then took without permission from the owner. He was arraigned and sent to the Steuben County Jail on $5,000 bail.
Baby Left in Bag in Elmira Released from Hospital:
The baby girl abandoned in a plastic bag in Elmira has now been released from Strong Memorial Hospital. The Elmira Police Department reports that Sabrina has been placed with a foster family.
Steuben Co. Manager Talks New Office Annex:
Questions continue to swirl about the need to construct a new county office annex in Bath. Jack Wheeler is the county manager. He said Tuesday that the current facility is filled to the max, with copiers and other equipment. The need to hire additional public defenders, a mandate from the state, has also pressed the issue. Cameron Bridge Being Restricted to One-Lane:
The bridge on County Road 22, between CR 119 and Jackson Hill Road, in the Town of Cameron will be restricted indefinitely to one lane of traffic starting tomorrow until the bridge can be replaced. Currently, the bridge is set to be done in the summer of 2019.
Potential Date Set for Sheldon Silver Retrial:
A potential date of April 16th has been set for the retrial of former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Silver was originally convicted of corruption and sentenced to 12 years in prison, but the decision was overturned on appeal.
