Bath School Board Budget Update
The Bath CSD Board of Education approved their proposed 2026-2027 school budget on Wednesday evening. School Superintendent Kelly Houck says there will be a public budget hearing on Tuesday May 12 at 5:00 pm in the auditorium and the budget vote and board of elections will be held on May 19 from noon to 8:00 pm in the Bath School District Office.
The Bath School System's New Cheerleader Program
Bath CSD is officially starting a new youth cheer program and want to see who might be interested! The program will be run through the school. Participants must be enrolled in Bath CSD in prek-6th grade for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

Hammondsport Says Thank You
Hammondsport Village Hall is thanking their residents for their cooperation and understanding with things getting under way with the new Greenleaf Recycling company. Officials from the Hammondsport Village Hall say, the trucks come early in the morning so please have your refuse and recycling out the night before, and if you don't they won't necessarily come back around to check things out.
No Avian Flu Here In Steuben County
Numerous media outlets have reported that birds have been found dead in the Seneca Lake area. The D.E.C. says, the cause of death is bird flu. Is it a problem in Steuben County? County Public Health Spokeswoman Mealea VanDenburg says, so far, no cases here in Steuben, but she notes, it never hurts to be careful. "The best way for folks to stay safe and to avoid the Avian Flu is to avoid touching sick or dead birds, to keep your pets away from them and to wash your hands if you've been outdoors," VanDenburg noted.
The VA Is Well Caught Up On Their Backlog Of Patients
The Finger Lakes V.A. issued a statement saying the Trump Administration has greatly cut the back log of VA patients waiting to get in. The VA statement on this topic noted that the, VA’s disability claims backlog is now below 100,000 for the first time since 2020, benefits access is getting faster for surviving family members.
