Local Men Charged For Allegedly Having Stolen Guns&Glass

From The Sheriff's Dept: Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on March 1, 2026, Deputies and Investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence on Oldfield Court, Bath, New York, resulting from a burglary and theft of firearms investigation in the Town of Thurston.  The result of the search warrant was the recovery of five firearms and several pieces of allegedly stolen glassware.  The glassware had been previously reported as stolen to the New York State Police in a separate incident. 

Deputies arrested:

  1. David W. Sullivan, age 39, reported homeless, of Bath, New York
  2. Michael E. Ogden, age 35, of 101 Steuben Street, Addison, New York

Both were charged with Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree, a class E Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a class E Felony and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, a class E Felony.  

  1. Alec L. Bowen, age 31, of East William Street Ext, Bath, New York.

Mr. Bowen was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C Felony, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a class E Felony and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, a class E Felony.

Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Ogden and Mr. Bowen were arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court. Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Bowen were held in lieu of $5,000 bail.  Mr. Ogden was held without bail. 

Sheriff Allard thanks the Village of Bath Police Department and the New York State Police for their assistance in this investigation and arrest.

 

A Bridge Closing For Work, Started Today In Campbell

Steuben County Department of Public Works Commissioner Eric Rose says the bridge on County Road 4 over the Cohocton River, located between New York State Route 415 and Curtis Coopers Road in the Town of Campbell, is closed to all through traffic beginning March 2, 2026, and is expected to remain closed through November 2026.

Bridge No. 004-01 (BIN 3332800) will undergo a complete reconstruction, including the installation of new abutments and a new bridge deck. This project is part of the County’s continued commitment to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure for residents and travelers.

There will not be an on-site detour at the bridge location. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route, which will utilize:

• New York State Route 415

• Curtis Coopers Road

• Smith Hill Road

Detour signage will be posted by the contractor prior to the closure date.

 

County Committee Meetings Were Held This Morning

The Steuben County Public Safety and Public Works Committee meetings are this morning.  Among other items on the agenda at the public safety meeting, Sheriff Jim Allard accepted a $40,000 grant from the state office of Mental Health.  

 

It Was 20 Years Ago, On March 1, 2006

Yesterday marked twenty years since the shooting death of State Police Officer Andrew Sperr.  Sperr was shot and killed on a street in Big Flats by a bank robber.  The suspect convicted in the case was Anthony Horton.  He was sentenced to life without parole.  Horton is now 53 years old and is still in Wende Correctional Facility in Erie County.

 

Four American Military Members Killed Over The Weekend 

Regarding the deaths of the four US military members who were killed in the middle east over this past weekend, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney says she wants to express her deepest condolences to the families of those killed as part of Operation Epic Fury.  Tenney says as the mother of a marine, she understands the risks and sacrifices that military members and their families make.  Senator Chuck Schumer says he was devastated to learn of the deaths of the three US service members and that every American should be proud of their patriotism and sacrifice.

 

Composting Lecture Slated For March 19 In Canisteo

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County is giving a talk about composting.  The event is free and happening on March 19, from 4pm-5pm.  That will be at the Historical Society at 23 Main Street in Canisteo.
