Bath Man Charged With 4th Degree Grand Larceny

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on August 16, deputies arrested John E. Sabins, age 32, of SR 53, Bath, following an investigation of a reported larceny by fraud in Wayland, New York. It is alleged that Mr. Sabins received funds in excess of $1,000 for purchases never delivered. Mr. Sabins was charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, both class E Felonies. Mr. Sabins, a current inmate at the Steuben County Jail, is being held as an alleged fugitive from justice and was returned to the Steuben County Jail.

 

Campbell Man Is Accused Of Choking A Deputy

Sheriff Allard also reports that on August 10, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Kris E. Calkins, age 50, of Parker Road, Campbell, following an alleged attack on a deputy who was serving as a peacekeeper. It is alleged that  Calkins intentionally attacked, choked and injured the deputy as the deputy was serving as a peacekeeper on Parker Road in Campbell.  Calkins was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a class D Felony, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.  Calkins was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released. The deputy was treated by EMS at the scene.

 

Mudslide in Cohocton

Steuben County Emergency Services Director Tim Marshall tells WVIN News that there was a mudslide on County Route 415 yesterday in Cohocton.  According to Marshall, this has happened before on Route 415, in that same area, and the DOT is aware and has already been working on this situation. 

 

State police say, a 59 year old Elmira woman was charged with DWI in Big Flats.  Troopers say, it was a first time offense. 

 

Getting Down To The Wire On The Special 

Tioga County Democrat Max Della Pia is on the campaign trail these days.  Della Pia will face off Republican Joe Sempolinski on August 23rd for the special election for the old 23rd.  Then Della Pia will run again in November, for the new 23rd  congressional district.  Yesterday, Sempolinski was at the Steuben County Fair in Bath.
