A Homicide In The City Of Corning

Corning Police report that Brett Heffner, 29, of Corning, is accused of 2nd degree murder.  Heffner is accused of killing 26 year old Keli Collins, 26,  of Corning, in the overnight hours.  Keli Collins was found dead in the 1am hour this morning.  Corning Police say, Brett Heffner knew Keli Collins because the two lived in the same building in Corning together, but did not live in the same exact apartment.  Police in Corning also say, Brett Heffner stole Keli Collin’s car and that car was discovered by Hornell Police, in Hornell in the 2am hour this morning.  Heffner is being held in Steuben County Jail without bail and the investigation continues.  Heffner will be back in Corning City Court Monday morning at  9am.   

 

Allegany County Man Becomes A General

The Wellsville sun reports that today, Wellsville native, Col. Jason Curl, is being made a Brigadier General at Fort Drum today.    

 

Local Accident News

There were no injuries in a two car accident in Friendship, the drivers were a 77 year old from friendship and a 19 year old from Belfast.

 

Music In The Park Next Week: Honoring The Police

On Wednesday August 10th, at the music in the park event in Bath, will be starting in the 5:00 hour.  And the mayor, Mayor Michael Sweet, will be there for this one, as it’s going to be an evening of music in the park honoring law enforcement.  The mayor is encouraging everyone to attend. 


Big Bonuses Next Year For Nurses, Etc

The governor says, there’s going to be $3,000 in bonuses, for healthcare workers who make less than $125,000.  Governor Kathy Hochul hopes to make that happen in 2023.

 

Early Voting Update

Early voting for the August 23rd primary and the August 23rd special eelction, that starts a week from tomorrow, on Saturday August 13th  and goes till Sunday August 21st.  The Steuben County Board of Elections says, there are three places to do early voting: in Hornell, Corning and in Bath, early voting is at the Steuben County Annex Building at 20 East Morris Street.
