April 4, 2022, Steuben County Covid Update

171 new COVID positive tests have been reported since last week's update. Sadly, another resident has passed (an 82 year old man in the Town of Erwin). The community level remains low, while home tests have increased significantly. CDC does not track home test results, so the community levels are unable to incorporate that data.

A Decision From A Rochester Judge, About Judge McAllister’s Decision On The Maps

Judge Stephen Lindley, a 4th Department Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court, has issued a “stay” on Steuben County Surrogate Judge McAllister’s ruling, on the state and congressional maps that were approved by Governor Kathy Hochul (McAllister ruled that the Hochul-approved maps, were unconstitutional).  There will be a hearing on Thursday in Justice Lindley’s court in Rochester, where it will be decided if the stay remains in place.  One source says, that Justice Lindley is a moderate Democrat, and that the Democrats went to an intermediate appellate court judge, possibly in order to stall and keep the process going so long, that it will make it difficult for new maps to be drawn this year.

Senator Tom O’Mara: Mixed Feelings About The New Buffalo Bills Stadium

The Buffalo Bills Stadium deal is part of this year’s budget, word is downstate Democrats are opposed to the amount of money going to Erie County to help the upstate Buffalo Bills.  Locally, State Senator Tom O’Mara says, while the deal is a great thing for buffalo, the $600 million dollars the state would pay, is over 30 percent of what the new stadium would cost.

The Budget Is Not Finished, But Might Be By Friday

The state legislature was supposed to have their budget done on Friday April 1st and it’s still not done.  There are two issues that Governor Kathy Hochul, State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins and Assembly Speaker Karl Heastie could not agree on so far: making changes to Bail Reform and making changes to Discovery Reform.
