More Local Road Work Begins Next Week

Road work is coming up in Urbana next week.  According to the New York State D.O.T. more lane closures will take place along State Route 54, north of Urbana Road for culvert replacement projects. The road will be an alternating single lane starting Monday April 4. There will be on-site flagging from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.  This is expected to last for a week.

Bath Amazon Update

Here’s the latest on Amazon coming to Bath: Steuben County Industrial Development Agency leader Jamie Johnson says, the IDA recently authorized execution of the bid for the project pending final execution of funding agreements, and, they are finalizing those agreements and hope to execute the bid soon.
Hornby Man Is Facing Serious Charges

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that deputies arrested 62 year old Todd Weber of Hornby.  It’s alleged that Weber threatened others with murder and did act in a manner to cause a reasonable expectation that he would commit murder.  Weber was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat, he was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

Bath Police Chief: Judges Need To Have Bail Reform Changed

At the state capital in Albany, lawmakers continue to discuss the possibility of making changes to bail reform. Wvin caught up with Bath village Police Chief Colin Taft, and asked him, what he would like to see changed, about bail reform.  “I’d like to see the judges be able to have more discretion on who is held on bail,” Taft said.  “We are losing the ability to do proactive patrol, because we are constantly dealing with the same people over and over again on repeat warrants.  I think the judges should be able to decide on bail, based on the suspect’s criminal history and other factors, if the suspect should stay in jail or not.” 

Statement From NYSCOPBA About “HALT”

The State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Union, put out a statement, saying that they want New York State, to delay starting a new prison policy called HALT on April 1st.  HALT, stands for Humane Alternatives for Long Term Solitary Confinement.  The Union’s spokesman says, violence against prison guards greatly increased last year, and now is not the time to try a policy that will lead to more violence against corrections officers.  The Corrections Officers Union says, the prison disciplinary system has been so weakened that an inmate wouldn’t think twice about attacking staff or another inmate because they know that there are no real ramifications to their actions.  The Union spokesman says, the assault statistics support that statement.

Campbell-Savona Central School officials say, next Monday’s board of education budget workshop has been cancelled, and Prattsburgh central school is getting a bunch of students together, grades seven through twelve, to help raise money for Tyrtle Beach.  Tyrtle Beach is coming up on April 29.
