The Hammondsport Village Planning Board met last night, and approved a rental permit for a Main Street Hammondsport address.  In Savona, the village board will be meeting on April 4th, to discuss among other issues, the Savona budget.

 

Pistol Safety Classes Are All Filled Up

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard says that the pistol safety classes, for the rest of the spring, are all filled up.  The sheriff describes this as an important and valuable class, where those who take it will learn all kinds of important things related to owning a handgun.  Also, according to Sheriff Allard, more and more women are taking the pistol safety classes these days. 


Upcoming Lecture At Corning Community College

Longtime New York Times and LA Times journalist and award winning writer, Sonia Nazario, is going to be speaking at Corning Community College, about her 2013 book, Enrique’s Journey.  The book Enrique’s Journey, is about a young boy from Honduras, who comes to America, to find his mother.  The talk is scheduled for Thursday April 7, at 7pm, at Corning Community. 

A.U. Taking In Students From Ukraine This Fall Semester

Alfred University will have new students coming in from Ukraine.  “We have two students, we’ve admitted for the fall, thanks to some generous scholarship support,” said Alfred University President Dr. Mark Zupan.  “One of the families ran a business in Kiev, they have escaped to Romania.  “The other one is still in Western Ukraine and is reasonably safe but just imagining what their lives are like right now. Their circumstances have really been upended, and if you would like to contribute to the scholarship support, please email me at Zupan@Alfred.edu,” Zupan stated.
