The Body Of The Missing Savona Man, Was Found

State Police are reporting that Eugeen Mattoon was found along the Cohocton River, in the town of Erwin, sometime yesterday.

 

Village Election Day Is Here

Today is Tuesday, March 15, voting is going on now in Bath, Savona, Hammondsport and villages across Steuben County.    In Bath, Mayor Mike Sweet and village trustees Melonie Coots and Mark Bardean are all seeking re-election.  In Hammondsport, three candidates are running for two seats on the village board: incumbents Leah Butler and Robert Kleckner are seeking re-election, also Mary Jane Bray is running for village Trustee.  In the Savona elections, there is a trustee’s race between Democrat Jessica Stevens and Republican Chris McCann. 

 

Message From Bath Police Chief: Lock Your Car Doors

Bath Village Police Chief Colin Taft says, the police department is reminding Bath residents and visitors to lock your vehicles and to not leave your vehicle with the motor running.  The Police Chief says Bath has had a large uptick in stolen motor vehicles in the last year.  “We usually average 2-3 per year at most and are now averaging a dozen or more, just three in the last week,’” the police chief stated.

 

Wayland Fire Recovery Update

Wayland Village Mayor Mike Parks, who says, regarding the February 22 downtown fire in Wayland: the owner of the Chinese restaurant has hired an engineer who says that the second floor, might possibly be able to be salvaged after all.  The tattoo shop owner says, he is meeting with the engineer and a contractor to get estimates and found out what can be done about that part of the building.  

 

Governor Hochul’s Proposed 2023 Budget

Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposed budget includes four billion dollars to increase wages for health care workers, $31.3 billion for education, including $53 million dollars for the SUNY college system.  The Democrat majorities in both the New York State Assembly and State Senate want to spend six billion dollars more in their budget, than the Democrat governor does.  The final budget will likely be signed on April 1st
