New Maps Will Have To Be Made, For Steuben County’s Districts

Officials with the Steuben County Legislature are working on new county district maps as a result of the recent census.  Steuben County Lawmaker Gary Swackhamer (R, Hornell) tells WVIN News, that populations have changed in Hornell, Erwin and two other areas, and the county district maps will have to be adjusted because of the difference in census numbers in those places.  

There Is A Need For Ambulance Volunteers In Steuben County

Steuben County Legislative Chairman Scott Van Etten says, emergency medical services don’t have the number of volunteers around the county, that they used to.  “EMS (Emergency Medical Services) is hurting for bodies, as far as the number of people there are, to do the work goes,” said Van Etten.  “A lot of our volunteer ambulance corps across the county, they are aging out.  You don’t have a lot of the volunteers that are coming in, that are from the younger generation.”  Bath area county legislator Kelly Fitzpatrick agrees.  “Our ambulance services are having a hard time getting volunteers and the need for medical services continues to grow.”   

Cabin Fire In The Early Morning Hours In Jasper

From Steuben County Director Of Emergency Services Tim Marshall:  “The fire was at the Intersection of Potter Road and Highup Road town of Jasper.  It was a seasonal residence and there were no injuries.  No one was there at the time of the fire.  The cause is still under investigation.”

A School Musical At Hammondsport Central This Weekend

Emma, the musical, will be put on tonight at 7pm at Hammondsport Central School.  Also, there will be performances on Sunday at 1pm and 4pm.

Upcoming Fundraiser For The Bath Volunteer Fire Dept

This reminder: A week from tomorrow, on Saturday, March 19, there will be a fundraiser for the Bath Volunteer fire department.  It will be a spaghetti dinner, the cost is $10.00.

51 new positive COVID tests have been reported since Wednesday's update. Per CDC, Steuben remains at a COVID community level of medium.
