A Local Official Is Helping Wayland Residents, After The Fire

According to Wayland Village Mayor Mike Parks, Steuben County Industrial Development Agency Director Jamie Johnson, met yesterday at a special meeting at the Wayland Village Hall.  Those who lost everything, in the Wayland fire, heard Johnson talk about the loans available to them, as part of the recovery process.  Also, Mayor Parks says that a structural engineer will be visiting Wayland again today.

 

State Lawmakers Attended Event At The Arnot Mall This Morning

The Expanded Learning Network of the Southern Tier, held an event this morning in Horseheads.  Senator Tom O’Mara, Assemblyman Phil Palmesano were there to speak, about the lack of funding for after school activities, in this year’s state budget.  O’Mara and Palmesano say that an additional $3 million is needed for the Educational Incentive Program to expand scholarships to child care workers and $250,000 is needed to provide technical assistance and capacity building supports. They also say that $500 million is needed for the Child Care Investment Fund to support competitive wages and professional development for underpaid child care professionals.

 

Tom Reed Asks The President To Reverse His Climate Policies

Corning Republican Congressman Tom Reed and other GOP members of the House of Representatives, sent a letter to President Joe Biden, asking Biden to stop the “climate activism”.  Reed says Biden needs to reverse his decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline, by allowing it. “These policy changes,” Reed’s letter stated, “will provide all Americans with the reliable and low-cost energy we need and deserve. We stand ready to join you in restoring American energy independence and await your prompt reply.

 

Schumer And Gillibrand Thank The President For Helping Ukrainians

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is thanking President Joe Biden and others in the Administration.  “Thank you, Secretary Mayorkas for granting Temporary Protected Status to Ukrainian nationals so they can remain in safety in the United States,” Gillibrand said.  The senator also noted, that about 9% of Ukrainians who are in America, are in New York State.  Senator Chuck Schumer is also pleased.  “I’ve been pushing for this, and now President Biden is taking action to designate Ukraine for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) so that Ukrainians can stay safely in America.  The United States stands with the people of Ukraine.”
