Bath Man Arrested for Torturing Dog
A 28-year-old Bath man was arrested for allegedly torturing a dog. The Steuben County Sheriff's Office reports Andrew W. Hatter  allegedly repeatedly struck a domestic animal. Hatter was officially charged with torturing/injuring an animal on Sunday, December 26th. He was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and was released.


NWS Issues Steuben Winter Weather Advisory to 4AM Tomorrow
The National Weather Service announces a winter weather advisory in effect for Steuben County from 6pm this evening to 4am tomorrow morning. Mixed precipitation is expected with total snow accumulations of up to two inches as well as an ice accumulation of a light glaze. Expect slippery road conditions as valley locations may stay just above freezing overnight so snow may change to freezing drizzle late this evening. The areas most likely to see the most ice will be elevations above 1400 feet. Hazardous conditions may impact the evening commute.


Troopers Want to Locate Owner of Envelope found at Erwin Walmart
State Police reported earlier this month on December 10th, at approximately 2:15 p.m.,  a couple located a white envelope at the Erwin Walmart containing personal items then turned the envelope into State Police in Bath. Troopers are attempting to locate the owner of the envelope to return it. If you believe the envelope and contents are yours, please contact State Police Barracks in Bath at 607-776-3356.


Bath Man Arrested for Stealing Vehicle
A Bath man was arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing a vehicle from a local business. State Police say Clifford Hurd allegedly took the vehicle and the items inside it from a business in the Town of Bath. It was recovered a short time later and Hurd was taken into custody. Hurd was charged with grand larceny, petit larceny, and three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.  He was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Town of Bath court and then released.


Greenwood Man Arrested for Domestic Incident
A 44-year-old Greenwood man was arrested by Steuben County Sheriff Deputies after a reported domestic incident yesterday. Casey Bickham is alleged to have “choked and struck another person,” as well as damaged the victim’s property. He was charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Harassment in the Second Degree. Bickham was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.


Wayland Getting $30,000 Engineering Grant to Improve Water Quality
The Town of Wayland will receive a $30,000 Engineering Planning Grant to help improve their water quality. These grants give aid so communities can afford and start critical planning and be better prepared to seek financing to finish their water infrastructure projects. The Town of Wayland will use the $30,000 in funding to evaluate the feasibility of constructing a new central wastewater collection system to serve the Loon Lake area and evaluate collection and treatment alternatives. The grant is a part of a $23 million grant announced by Governor Kathy Hochul to help improve water quality across the state and mitigate the effects of climate change.


6 More COVID-Related Fatalities Reported in Steuben
The Steuben County Public Health Dept received notification of 6 COVID-related deaths.  3 males, a 67-year-old from Hornellsville, 89-year-old from Corning and a 65-year-old from Tuscarora and 3 females, a 94-year-old from Erwin, 53-year-old from Cameron and a 82-year-old from Corning.  This brings the total number of COVID deaths within Steuben County to 269. 


Million-Dollar NY Lottery Ticket Sold at Addison 7-Eleven
According to the NY Lottery, a winning $1 million ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven store on Main St. in Addison for the Christmas Eve drawing. 


NY State EMS Aircrafts Will Be Allowed to Carry and Distribute Blood
A bill has been signed into law in NY State allowing EMS aircrafts to carry and distribute blood in the air.  Advocates have been fighting for months to pass the legislation.  NY became the last state in the country to allow this. 


Excelsior Pass & Excelsior Pass Plus Available to Vaccinated Veterans
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Excelsior Pass and Excelsior Pass Plus are now available to all military veterans who received their shots at a U.S. Dept of Veterans’ Affairs hospital or health care facility in NY.
