Wood Road Bridge Replacement Begins Tuesday July 6th
Steuben County Public Works announces The Wood Road Bridge over the Cohocton River between County Route 125 and Savona- Campbell Road, in the Town of Campbell will be closed to all through traffic on or about Tuesday, July 6th for about 6 weeks. Plans call for the existing bridge deck to be removed and completely replaced with a new wooden deck. There will not be an on-site detour but a detour using Savona-Campbell Road and County Route 333 will be posted in advance of the bridge replacement.
STOP-DWI Crackdown Launches Tomorrow for July 4th Weekend
Governor Cuomo announced New York will launch a statewide drunk and drugged driving crackdown over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Troopers and local law enforcement will be out in full force across the state to keep impaired drivers off the roads. The crackdown starts tomorrow and ends Monday, July 5th. Expect increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints for the summer's busiest weekend for travel.
Avoca Woman Injured in Jerusalem Crash
A Steuben County woman was injured yesterday morning just before 8am in a one-car accident on Italy Hill Road in the town of Jerusalem. 26-year-old Rachel Patten of Avoca was traveling east when she says she lost control of her car, which went off the south side of the road and into the ditch. Sheriff Deputies say her car returned the road then exited the northside before ending up in the ditch. Patten was taken to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital for treatment of head pain and nausea.
Minimum Wage for Fast Food Workers Rises to $15 in NY Today
Beginning today, the minimum wage for fast-food workers will increase to $15 per hour throughout New York state as part of gradual wage increases that began in 2015 as set by the Department of Labor. The wage increase for fast food workers will affect establishments with 30 or more employees, including individually-owned franchises.
O’Mara Co-sponsors “Opioid Settlement Fund” Legislation
Legislation co-sponsored this year by State Senator Tom O’Mara to establish an “Opioid Settlement Fund” has been signed into law. The new law requires that any settlement funds New York State receives from lawsuits and other actions against opioid manufacturers and distributors be dedicated to opioid prevention, treatment, and recovery programs and services. The legislation was unanimously approved by the Senate and Assembly in the closing days of this year’s legislative session and signed into law this week by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Prevent Child Abuse Steuben Task Force Gets CPA Award
An agency dedicated to the welfare of children in Steuben County for nearly 50 years was presented this week with the county’s annual Child Abuse Prevention Award. The Crystal City Police Benevolent Association (PBA) was recognized by the county Legislature and the Prevent Child Abuse Steuben Task Force for its significant efforts to benefit children. The award was presented by County Department of Social Services Commissioner Kathryn A. Muller, who told county lawmakers the association stood out from other nominations.
Corning Inc. Declares Quarterly Dividend of 24 Cents
Corning Incorporated’s Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of $0.24 per share on the company’s common stock. The dividend will be payable on Sept. 29, 2021, to shareholders of record on Aug. 31, 2021.
Guthrie Continues Masking Requirements for Hospitals
While they are encouraged that Pennsylvania and other states across the country have discontinued certain masking requirements, Guthrie says it continues its commitment to protecting patients, visitors and staff by requiring masking in all of its facilities in both New York and Pennsylvania.
NYGC Joins Other States in Adding Monday Drawings Starting 8/23

Buffalo Wing Festival Set for Labor Day in Orchard Park
The National Buffalo Wing Festival is back on this year and it’s moving to Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, NY. The festival is planned for Labor Day weekend. Right now, organizers are planning to operate at 50% capacity, and ther will be five pre-ticketed sessions.
